Book Description

April 2004
Dick Farrell is a man haunted by his wartime memories of torture and fear - a time better forgotten. But past and present merge when a trip to Eastern Europe embroils him in the twilight world of the industrial spy. His trip culminates beneath the blazing summit of Vesuvius in full eruption.

Editorial Reviews

Review

A spiralling of suspense for a chase which leads from behind an iron curtain in Czechoslovakia to Milan, Naples and Pompell where an erupting Vesuvius lends its full fury to the individual issues at hand. Dick Farrell, his nerves shredded after a German guinea pig experiment in the war which cost him his leg, now a business man abroad, is innocently committed in the escape of an old friend from Pilsen, later in Milan heads into the doctor, Sansevino, who had amputated his leg deliberately and by degrees. In Farrell's knowledge of Sansevino's identity. In his ignorance of the secret papers he is carrying- in his artificial leg, he is harried, and hunted until the violence of Vesuvius endangers them all, forces a finals... Leaning less heavily on pictorial props than Gale Warning, Fire in the Show this concentrates on the drama of man against man, is feverishly, furiously sustained. (Kirkus Reviews) --This text refers to an alternate Paperback edition.
