I usually don't like to be a negative critic of others' writing, but i felt that i had to say something to help someone else avoid the mistake of buying this book. each poem sounds exactly like every other teenage angst poem that we all wrote at the age of 12. i think these people should grow up a little, learn a bit about what poetry can really sound like (here's a hint: not every poem you write needs to use the rhyming words such as me see be, you too blue, love above dove), then rewrite everything thats in this book. try reading saul williams' poetry for example, and don't waste your money on this nonsense.

I got this book from a friend for my birthday and since then I have taken up writing. This book was a total inspiration!!!!!!!! Chapter 101 or whatever it is called was really moving. I recommend this for anyone looking for a way to express themselves positively. Plus, it is colorful and not very expensive.

ANGST! is my new favorite book!!!!!! Those girls are my kind of people--trash-talking and saying exactly how they feel. I wish we could read stuff like this at school, because the "literature" they make us read is outdated. This book is written in a language that I can understand, and feel. I get poetry now, because girls out there like me are writing it! This book rocks the house!

Most poems and overemotional and seem self-centered,
This review is from: Angst!: Teen Verses From the Edge! (Paperback)
This is basically a colorful book of English poems written by teenage girls who have issues to vent about. The poems were originally submitted by amateur poets through a web community on [...]. At the end of the book, there are some brainstorming ideas and a glossary of literary tools to help you write your own poems to express "angst".
I did like the fact that the entire book was in color, and a few poems had some redeeming qualities to them. Otherwise, I didn't really like this book. The girls complain about very typical teenage situations like getting dumped or being misunderstood. The book offers nothing new that a poem by any amateur poetry writer could have provided, and a few of the issues they talk about seem so insignificant in light of all the other problems out there in the world. Even the poems about tougher issues sound silly because of the way they were written. The poems that rhyme, for instance, degrades the seriousness of the situation the poet is talking about. In short, this book was uninspiring for the most part. A book with good poems would have surprised me at times, and made me empathize with the poet's personal problems.

THE BEST EVER,

This book blew me away. I can't beleive there are so many girls that feel the way I do, and could write about it. I'm a teen and this spoke so much to me. It is great to see how real this book is. I've recieved teen poetry books before, and they all are too adult influenced. This book was real! I highly recommend this book to any one, at any age, that wants to know what it feels like to be a girl in today's world. My only critique is that it could of had the real curse words--but whatever. At least this book is out here and people like me can finally know that someone is paying attention!
