Still a wonderful story,

This review is from: Angus Lost (Paperback)
I didn't think my class of wiggly 3 year-olds would sit still for this, but they were just enthralled. Maybe the idea of being lost and finding your way back; encountering strange creatures. I love the language in this: simple yet flowing.

Wonderful childrens book to add to your collection!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Angus Lost (Paperback)
My children adore all three of the Angus books. I think they should be a classic, just like Peter Rabbit. Angus is a curious Scottie dog who wonders about many things. I think children can relate to Angus' curiosity about the world around him and the things in his own house. The text is lively and brief, written from Angus' perspective. My young one stays interested and the older one can read along. The text also contains opposites, animals, animals sounds and some history. I'd encourage parents to follow Angus on his adventures. We have many, many times.Other books in this series include "Angus and the Cat" and "Angus and the Ducks". Both have a similar style and content. My children like them all. The "McDuff" books by Rosemary Wells have a loveable dog as the main character and my children like these books too.

After Reading This My Heart Is Lost, Too!,
By Terrie (Little Chute, WI USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Angus Lost (Paperback)
This book is a wonderful little work of art that you should not miss. Written in 1931, this story of a plucky and curious young Scottish terrier named Angus is a short, simple tale about a small dog's big curiosity almost getting the best of him. Angus, who is very curious about where the milk man comes from and where the wide road goes, and what kind of animals cars are, and MANY other things, finds his chance to explore when the gate to his yard is left ajar one day. He has some amazing adventures for such a little guy and they are sure to hold the attention of young listeners. The artwork in this book is truly lovely with the backgrounds being similar to silhouettes. Many of the pictures are simple black and white and others have colored washes to add interest. The drawings show the automobiles, homes, furnishings, and a bit of the clothing of the bygone day in which this book was written and greatly add to the charm of this book. Little Angus is a heart-melter and I predict you will not be able to resist him. Two other books about his adventures, Angus and the Ducks and Angus and the Cat are wonderful, too.

Angus Lost Finds A Place in Your Heart,
By
This review is from: Angus Lost (Paperback)
This book introduces Angus, a small Scottish Terrier. Angus is curious about a great many things in his world (i.e. where the dog in the mirror goes). One day the door between the inside and the outside is open. Angus can't resist going out and seeing the new things. But soon Angus can no longer find his way home. But after spending the night in a small cave, Angus finds a way to find his way back home again. A simple tale with interesting illustrations tells how easy it is to become lost but that one should not give up hope. Dog fans and fans of good basic stories will love this one.

Oh Angus, how we love your stories! This little curious scottish terrier is more curious that Curious George. He goes off in winter to explore where the milkman goes, finds a dog friend, meets a goat who luckily is on a chain. He runs to find more adventure and gets caught overnight in the snow. He hears a sound he knows...the milkman and follows him on his route until he finds his way home. Very heartwarming story.

Everyone is Curious,

This is one of three books about Angus, the little Scottish Terrier. He is like many small boys or girls
who do not want to stay safely at home, but want to take off and explore the world. Without being terribly scary this story illustrates that sometimes we are not ready to do what we think we are ready to do, and that there are good reasons for certain rules. Angus is very smart and learns quickly. I feel children relate to the way curiosity tempts us to do things we should not do. I also enjoy reading the Quack Quack Quackety Quack talk of the ducks to little children because they love hearing an adult quack.

Great, entertaining book to read to youngsters,

This book is a joy to read. Any child (and the adult reading) would appreciate the little scottie's adventures! The illustrations are very expressive and cute and their simplicity are endearing. The text is short and to the point and can be entertaining and didactic when read to a youngster. Anyone owning a scottie would see their pet's character traits in Angus immediately. This is a great book to read to a child and to expose them to the joys of reading with the fun of experiencing the antics of a small and curious dog.

Home Adventure Home Story,

Angus Lost by Marjorie Flack is a perfect home adventure home story for a read aloud in kindergarten, first or second grade classrooms. It tells a story of a curious dog who leaves home to learn about the world outside his gate. Children relate to Angus and understand his feelings. A discussion about the milkman and his job is always interesting and often relates to Social Studies units on community helpers then and now. This book can also be used as a model text for writer's workshop on home adventure home stories. Sharing this story with children is a joy and a pleasure.

I love all the Angus books. Having owned a Scottie dog, I am particularly thrilled with the illustrations - they are so accurate. I used to read these to my daughter when she was a child & am now buying them for all my friends' little kids. I'll keep my set forever. The stories are so endearing.
