5.0 out of 5 stars Not just a soundtrack, a true '90s gem.
If you read my "Favorite Movies" list or read my review, you'd know that "Angus" is one of my all-time favorite movies. To me, it captures the spirit of the mid-90s more than anything else. And here is the soundtrack to accompany it. Every song on here is at least good, and any time I pop it in and listen to the punk/alternative songs on here, I...

3.0 out of 5 stars MAZZY STAR - FADE INTO YOU
I WENT CRAZY FOR THIS SONG and couldn't find it on the soundtrack?! Movie was good and when they played it two weeks ago on "Dinner and a Movie" the girl said the name of the song! FINALLY. The soundtrack would've been a 5 star if this was on it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Not just a soundtrack, a true '90s gem., December 5, 2003
This review is from: Angus: Music From The Motion Picture (Audio CD)
If you read my "Favorite Movies" list or read my review, you'd know that "Angus" is one of my all-time favorite movies. To me, it captures the spirit of the mid-90s more than anything else. And here is the soundtrack to accompany it. Every song on here is at least good, and any time I pop it in and listen to the punk/alternative songs on here, I automatically become wistful for the days of pogs and Sega.

But I digress. Now onto the album:

1. Green Day - JAR: The song everybody's familiar with. Not the best GD song ever, but still great.
2. Ash - Jack Names The Planets: Mid-tempo alt rocker with a funny intro. Very nice.
3. Dance Hall Crashers - Enough: Faster, with a female lead vocalist. Still very catchy. "Shut up and we'll be fine..."
4. Ash - Kung Fu: More Ash, but this one's faster than JNTP. (And, IMHO, better.)
5. The Riverdales - Back To You: VERY Ramonesish, but not in a ripoff way. Joey would be proud.
6. Smoking Popes - Mrs. You And Me: Decent, but the lead vocalist just sounds too nasal. But it's still an okay track.
7. Weezer - You Gave Your Love To Me Softly: Short, but sweet love song. Does anyone know what "Leijon" (sp?) is?
8. Goo Goo Dolls - Ain't That Unusual: I'm not really a GGD fan, but for some reason, I love this song. Mid-tempo, kind of nice.
9. Muffs - Funny Face: Pretty good, but I usually skip it. It's a little bit slower.
10. Tilt - White Homes: Great song, faster and more punkish.
11. Pansy Division - Deep Water: Decent acoustic song.
12. Love Spit Love - Am I Wrong: The soundtrack's big curveball. It's a slower song backed by a marching band. But it's really good.

By the way, the song they left out (the one where Angus dances with Melissa) was "Fade Into You" by Mazzy Starr. Dunno why they left it off.

But anyway, if you're a '90s lover like me, then buy the movie, and the soundtrack, and enjoy.

5.0 out of 5 stars You buy a CD for one song..., March 3, 2000

...and you see where it gets you. This CD is incredible. I bought it for the opening song in the film ('Am I Wrong' by Love Spit Love), but have enjoyed it for all the other tracks.

From what I understand, the song referenced above was not written with the marching band in it. That was added for the film. Incredible. It's my favorite movie opening.

5.0 out of 5 stars something's missing in here, November 23, 2001

the song "fade into you by mazzy star" was featured in the movie (angus) but how come the song was not featured on the soundtrack. It made me real mad cause the song plays a huge part in the movie the song was played when angus danced the girl of his dreams the part that really made me cry. Dont get me wrong i still love the cd but i pretty much enjoy watching the movie.

4.0 out of 5 stars The movie bombed but its songs were at least great, January 8, 2000

Though many of the groups on the "Angus" soundtrack may now find themselves on various "Best of the '90s" compilation CDs, this was one of the more fun albums of that era -- with great music to boot. There's a youthful punk energy and a genuine feeling of emerging from the homogeneousness of life in these songs that make them special. Ash contribute two excellent tracks that are high-paced with purposely silly lyrics. Other great contributions come from the Riverdales, Smoking Popes, Weezer, Dance Hall Crashers and the Muffs. Many have heard the great Green Day song, "J.A.R.," but it's the Goo Goo Dolls who actually steal the show. Their song "Ain't That Unusual" (also on A Boy Named Goo) is a majestic song with towering riffs and heartfelt lyrics. Overall, the youthful spirit from these songs carries them a long way, and it doesn't matter that they won't be prominently heard of again. Though I never did see "Angus" (and likely never will), the songs from the soundtrack are worth checking out.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome!, October 17, 1999

This CD is really good (so's the movie). I think the best song on here is the last one, the movie's theme song with the marching band thing going on. I'm surprised no one else here thinks so.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely amazing, December 28, 2003

I first saw the movie when i was extremely young, and could totally relate with the main character, Angus. It was, is, and will always be one of my most favorite movies ever. I first fell in love with the soundtrack because of the Green Day and Weezer songs, which at the time I couldn't find anywhere else. However, i soon absolutely fell for every other song on this album. The missing Mazzy Star song is abit of a drag, but oh well.. My only complaint is, while I do love the version of "Am I Wrong" on this album, it's not the same version as the one in the movie. The horn arrangement and general sombreness of the movie version is missing from the soundtrack version. It's still a great tune, but i would love to know if anyone has the movie version online somewhere, and if so, where i could find it. Overall, excellent movie, equally excellent album.Peace.

I just want everyone out there to know that this is the best album I have heard in recent memory. If you like rockish-punkish type music, this has got it all. :D

5.0 out of 5 stars THIS ROCKED!, January 5, 2000

The movie was so much better than the current slew of "teen" movies, and this is the perfect complement to it. I found this at a flea market, and fell in love with it. While the "heavies" perform at their usually stellar level, it is the lesser-known (to me) bands that shine. Their songs seemed more emotive and while not rock anthems, kept in theme with the film and were beautiful in their own right. The last track, played interestingly at the beginning of the movie, is the best example of this. This soundtrack makes me want to look up all these bands and see what else they have to offer. Simply a great album. Go see the movie; buy this soundtrack! (not necessarily in that order)

This is a really great soundtrack and all, but why didn't they have the slow dance song, which is a great Mazzy Star tune? And if ANYBODY knows the song that plays during the beginning credits, PLEASE email me! thanx
