Even Grown-Ups Will Love This Book!,
By
This review is from: Angus, Thongs and Full-Frontal Snogging: Confessions of Georgia Nicolson (Confessions of Georgia Nicolson, Book 1) (Paperback)
If ever there was a book that matched the hilarity and wittiness of Bridget Jones, this is it! And even if you are an old lady, like me, you can appreciate the teenage antics and woes of Georgia Nicolson. After all, we've been there, done that...Fourteen-year-old Georgia Nicolson is just like any other her age although she doesn't always see that. She thinks she's ugly, has no boyfriend potential, and believes her parents are a little (or a lot!) on the naff side. Well, what teenager HASN'T thought this! Reading this book is like having a reunion with myself. I was Georgia about 13 years ago and acted much in the same way. And author Louise Rennison was Georgia's age at one time, too, which is undoubtedly the reason Angus, Thongs and Full-Frontal Snogging is pin-point accurate. The humor, which spurs big bouts of fall-off-your-seat laughter, is this book's best asset, especially if you're in the mood to laugh. Georgia's 3-year-old sister, Libby, is too cute for words, and if you are a cat fanatic, you will most likely enjoy Angus the Scottish wildcat, who plays a sizable role in the story. A very quick book to get through, written in an easy-to-read diary format, complete with a handy British slang glossary in the back. Must read this novel -- it'll take a few years off you, make you smile, and have you wishing you were 14 again if only for one day. Kudos, Louise Rennison!

Anyone thinking of picking this book up needs to do so right away. You know how sometimes when you read a book jacket and it says "laugh out loud funny" but it's not? Well this one actually made me laugh out loud all throughout it. The author needs to make a sequel because I can't wait to read more about Georgia. Also, I'm 28 so don't let the young adult label phase you. This book will make people of any age crack up.

This review is from: Angus, Thongs and Full-Frontal Snogging: Confessions of Georgia Nicolson (Hardcover)
Georgia Nicolson is 14 years old and right in the throws of everything a teenager holds sacred. As we experience life through her eyes we are brought back to a time that was simple yet complicated. However can that be you ask? Just lose yourself in this enjoyable piece of fiction for a day and you will find yourself laughing out loud and looking for someone to share the many hysterical bits of Georgia's life. She has a cat that is big enough to stalk and eat the poodle next door and a three-year-old sister that smells a bit "hamsterish". She is in need of a first kiss and is learning from Peter who gives free kissing lessons to anyone who knocks on his front door before his mom gets home at 6:30. Georgia will charm you from the first sentence when she introduces you to her Uncle Eddie who is as "bald as a coot" and can't pass up a chance to ask her, "Should bald heads be buttered?". The scenarios are endless as well as hilarious. This is a wonderful light and quick read when you just want to have a laugh and remember how it was to be a teenager. Kelsana 5/31/01

wow! what a completely hilarious book! read this and u'll be wishing for a friend like georgina. this is basically a diary of a snippet of one girl's life and is fantastic! im 16, and i have never laughed as much as when i read this book. all the antics that georgina and her mates get up to, such as spying on her crushes girlfriend as she pads her bra and shaving their eyebrows, will leave u rolling on the floor! robbie, the 'sex god', is sure to make u fall in love and can u believe the whole snog- teacher thing! this is my favourite book ever, probably, and i would recommend it to anyone girl or boy of any age, who loves a good giggle! my funniest bit in the book was when georginas dyed lock of hair fell out, but i'll leave u to find out more for yourselves! CLASSIC!

Fresh and Hysterically Funny From Start to Finish,
By Linda F. Townzen (Lexington, KY United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Angus, Thongs and Full-Frontal Snogging: Confessions of Georgia Nicolson (Hardcover)
I remember when I first picked up this book, I was distracted by the rather bizarre title. I was thinking "Who in the world would read this book?!" Well, now I'd say a lot of people would. I later bought it on impulse and I loved it! I recommended it to my friend (who also balked at the title) but eventually read it and loved it. Angus presents a fresh, realistic character-Georgia Nicholson, a fifteen year old Brit teen. Her family is eccentric and delightfully silly. Her mother, who basically lets Georgia do what she pleases in order to avoid conflict. Her father, who is, in Georgia's opinion, very overprotective. Then there is her bald Uncle Eddie offering her rides on his "prewar motor bike" and her 3 year old sister, Libby, who uses Georgia's foundation on her stuffed toys and creates hammocks for her dolls from her sanitary pads. And of course, the 1/2 Scottish wildcat, Angus. Her friends are similar in that they are likable, quirky and realistic people. During the course of the year, Georgia ends up shaving off her eyebrows, standing up to the school bullies, and stalking her crush's girlfriend. This book chronicles it all in journal format, including her own witty comments and observations. Though she has her faults, Georgia is a likable character with a good heart. You will find yourself cheering for her and laughing with ( and sometimes at) her. I can still crack up when reading certain passages in the book. What is so appealing is that any teenage girl can relate to- the more I read of Angus, the more I saw Georgia in myself. If you want a light, easy read that will make you laugh out loud, this book, reminiscent of Bridget Jones' Diary ( Angus is like the teen version), is perfect. And if you like it, I highly recommend the sequel, On the Bright Side, I am Now the Girlfriend of a Sex God. It is also funny, if not more hysterical than the first.

Ahh, to be young again....,

This review is from: Angus, Thongs and Full-Frontal Snogging: Confessions of Georgia Nicolson (Confessions of Georgia Nicolson, Book 1) (Paperback)
This book describes exactly what I went through at 14, well, except for moving to New Zealand. I love Rennison's humorous take on everything.. but I wouldn't let anyone under 13 read it. The book deals with sex, especially gay and lesbian jokes that younger readers probably would neither like nor understand. Throughout most of the book, I could not stop laughing, the eyebrow plucking, finding an apron in her father's sock drawer, regarding her crush as a "sex god" and referring to her mother and father in German nicknames "mutti" and "vatti," repectively. Regarding her parents' possible separation, Georgia is conflicted between which of the two she would rather live with. (If I go with mum, I'll have access to makeup and clothes, so long Vatti!) If you want a good read for spring break or summer vacation, "cheers," you just found it!

Wow! Fab, fab, fab,

This review is from: Angus, Thongs and Full-Frontal Snogging: Confessions of Georgia Nicolson (Hardcover)
wow- i couldnt put this down, it took me about three hours to read it all. what first attracted me was the title- angus, thongs, and full-frontal snogging- a somewhat weird title for a book. at first i thought it would be one of those boring diary accounts of her and some lover whom which she has 'full-frontal snogging' with, but instead i found this book full of humor and typical teenage complaints- weird family, her crush catching her in the midst of many embarrassing moments. i could really relate to her pain, joy, and sadness of the 14th year of her life. for once the girl in this book, unlike other characters is not perfect. i fell in love with angues, the cat, and am currently beggin my parents for a similiar breed. and instead of putting this book away, i read it again- this is one of those books that are still good the second time around. i highly reccomend this one!

Don't judge a book by its title!,

This review is from: Angus, Thongs and Full-Frontal Snogging: Confessions of Georgia Nicolson (Confessions of Georgia Nicolson, Book 1) (Paperback)
When a friend lent me Angus, Thongs, and Full-Frontal Snogging, I basically shrugged and thought, "Okay... Well, whatever, I don't have time to go to the library today." After I'd flipped through it, though, I decided that it looked pretty funny, and I couldn't wait to read it when I got home. The result - I was up late muffling my laughter while I read this book!Georgia is a 14-year-old modern British girl, and this book is her diary of a year in her life with all of it's (ever changing) ups and downs. Her sarcastic views are generally hilarious, and that makes this book a definite page turner. I hope the sequels will be just as good, and if you're looking for another laughter-filled epic of a teenage girl, try the Alice series by Phyllis Reynolds Naylor - or for other funny, diary form books, Truth or Dairy and Catherine Called Birdy. For any teen/preteen girl, reluctant reader or not... Try reading one page in this book, and see if you can put it down!

One reason why i bought this book was because of the title. who can resist a book with a title like this? and secondly cause it's really funny. I was stuck in Barnes and Nobles for 3 hours and i saw this book, started reading it and wouldn't shut up until my mom bought it for me :) I finished it in 2 days but man! what a couple of days. This book is funny. Georgia is the heroine who tells about her life. She has a 3 year old sister named Libby who is hmmm.... "mad" very embarrassing parents, and a Scottish Wildcat named Angus who is very mad. she tells us all about her big nose, her friends, her problems, and school. Since it is from England, the slang is different so luckily over here in a America, we got a dictionary and thank god for that. But, What does "how's your father" have to do with a guy's.... nah read it and see. ;) Anyways, if you are a guy like me don't bring this book to school or let girls see you with it!!! Some girls think i'm a sex-fiend for reading a Fictious girls diary (they didn't know she was fictious until i told them, but they still think i'ma sex-fiend) If you do bring it to school, control your laughter! Get this book- you'll enjoy it

The misadventures of a teenage girl,
By A Customer
This review is from: Angus, Thongs and Full-Frontal Snogging: Confessions of Georgia Nicolson (Hardcover)
Angus thongs and full frontal snogging is a book about the hilarious misadventures of an "average" teenage girl. Georgia Nicholson is just trying to survive through her first year of high school, convince her mother to let her wear makeup, survive her little sister who has some very bad habits, live with her part-wildcat cat named Angus, deal with her slightly clueless friend, take snogging lessons, live with her parents, ....THough she seems to pretty much mess up with everything Georgia's diary is funny, true to life, and a great book to read when you're having a bad day. People who grew up reading the Ramona books will enjoy reading about this Brit teen. If you're a fan of books like "The Princess Diaries" and other humorous diary books you'll love this. It will make you want to start a diary of your own! I reccomend it to any teenage girl who's convinced that they have the most hectic life in the world. You're wrong. You haven't meet Georgia. |
