Book Description

December 26, 2007
For all you do ... this cookbook's for you! This robust new release raises a glass to that most iconic of American beverages: beer. And who better to come bearing gifts of great-tasting, beer-friendly recipes than Anheuser-Busch, America's foremost authority on beer?

Great Food, Great Beer has tasty recipes on tap for grilling, one-pot specialties, and lots of other easy-to-prepare, crowd-pleasing foods. Beer connoisseurs are already saying "Cheers!" to the book's most compelling feature: the Brewmaster in the Kitchen. Created by Anheuser-Busch experts, "Brewmaster" icons appear throughout, denoting the recommended type of beer--a hoppy lager, an amber ale, or a full-bodied stout, for instance--that best complements each recipe.

There's never been a more complete pairing guide than Great Food, Great Beer, and there's never been a more perfect gift for the beer lover in your life.

Features

  • Tasty, beer-friendly recipes that focus on grilling, roasting, and one-pot wonders, each accompanied by full-color photography

  • Brewmaster in the Kitchen, a specially-created icon system for pairing beer with food
  • Glossary of beer terms, A Cook's Guide to Beer, so every cook feels like a pro

    Editorial Reviews

    From Publishers Weekly

Emphasizing beer-as-pairing rather than beer-as-ingredient, this cookbook offers something for virtually everyone, even if they don't enjoy a frosty lager. Classic beer-alongs like burgers, chili, chicken-fried steak and pigs in a blanket make an appearance, but otherwise, the folks at Sunset take a global approach, including classic European brasserie fare like mussels with pomme frites (make that pommes oven-frites), Argentinian chimicurri-laced steak and a Mediterranean-inspired Chicken Stew with Olives and Lemon. Though Crisp Roast Duck rests atop cabbage cooked with cherries and Michelob Amber Bock, grilled lobster tails are basted with a symphonic Budweiser-butter reduction laced with vanilla, and a luscious gingerbread cake gets a kick from the addition of stout, beer-free recipes are the rule rather than the exception. Hearty, non-alcoholic favorites include Leek and Chanterelle Tart, Rigatoni with Green Olive-Almond pesto and Roadhouse Steaks with Ancho Chile Rub, as well as a full range of desserts. Complemented with a guide to pairing beer with everything from cheese to chocolate as well as the dishes in the book, this is a must-have for fans of beer and pub fare.

    5.0 out of 5 stars I misjudged this book!, July 20, 2008
This review is from: Anheuser-Busch Cookbook: Great Food, Great Beer (Paperback)
I bought a copy of this book as a quick present for my brother, who loves beer. After reading through it, I bought another copy for myself. I thought it would be filled with bar food or recipes that use beer in all recipes with little regard to taste. This is not the case. The recipes are excellent and most are easy to make. Sunset magazine has collaborated with Anheuser-Busch to create sophisticated recipes and beer recommendations for each. Everyone I made so far has been great, whether enjoyed with beer or not. This book is impressively comprehensive and covers everything from appetizers to desserts. Excellent cook book!

I had an earlier edition of the Budweiser Cook Book which was great but my copy got a little tore up from moving over the years and using it frequently. So when I saw this newer edition, I was elated. This newer edition is thicker and has more recipes but it left out some of my favorites and I don't care for the newer edition as much as I did for the old one.
