Aniko Carmean is a Virginia girl living in Austin, Texas. Aniko began writing in 2005, and spent seven years honing her craft before publishing her debut novel, STOLEN CLIMATES. Her primary influences are Shirley Jackson, Italo Calvino, Iris Murdoch, and Sylvia Plath. Aniko reads a wide variety of books, and some of her favorites are King's THE SHINING, Murdoch's THE BELL, Nothomb's THE CHARACTER OF RAIN, Plath's ARIEL, Calvino's IF ON A WINTERS NIGHT A TRAVELER..., and Jackson's amazing HAUNTING OF HILL HOUSE. If forced to pick an all time favorite she would have to say Jackson's HANGSAMAN, which she exhorts you to read now. Her favorite contemporary authors include Mari Biella, Mary SanGiovanni, and Hunter Shea.
Autumn is Aniko's favorite season, blue is her favorite color, Orion her favorite constellation, and twenty-two is her favorite number.
Aniko lives with her husband, and their three dogs: a Doberman, a Yorkie, and a sweet mutt with white feet. Her writing is as varied as her pets, and Aniko pens horror, science fiction, and literary stories. Aniko holds a degree in Physics from Mary Washington College, and completed the requirements for the Philosophy major. She warns that if you are ever to study that hard, do not read Lovecraft's THE DREAMS IN THE WITCH HOUSE at the same time! Prior to college in the Civil War town of Fredericksburg, which has as many ghosts as there are students, Aniko lived three terrifying years in a haunted house in a small Belgian village. And so, a fascination with the surreal was born!
