Editorial Reviews

Mother Mary Francis, P.C.C. These meditations on the famous prayer of St. Ignatius by a Poor Clare nun and well-regarded spiritual writer will help every reader deepen his prayer life and draw closer to the Person of Christ. Popes, saints, and common folk have made this their daily prayer for centuries. Let the Abbess of cloistered nuns help you reflect deeper on the profound thoughts of this prayer that are needed to shape a devout life in Christ. Beneath the surface verbal expressions of this familiar prayer lie depths of meaning for which each unfolding petition prepares the next until arrival at the final all-comprehensive plea that God should call us to Himself and admit us into the eternal choir singing His praises. The unending joyous cry of the blessed taught by the ageless cry of the angels: Holy! Holy! Holy! is rehearsed on earth in the haunting reaches of this so simple and so profound prayer: "Anima Christi". "How illuminating are her meditations on the meaning of suffering and an expression of love; how convincingly she shows that it opens one's heart to others by choking our selfishness. Anyone reading this beautiful book will pray the Anima Christi with deepened understanding and renewed fervor." —Alice von Hildebrand, Author, Soul of a Lion "As an Abbess of Poor Clare Nuns, Mother Mary Francis has for many decades been guiding her Sisters toward a holy life. This book allows one to listen in on what she has to say to those who wish above all to find Jesus Christ, and to build their lives on Him." —Ronald Lawler, OFM. Cap., Co-Author, The Teaching of Christ

Deo gratias! Mother Mary Francis, for sharing your inspired reflections on this beautiful prayer. What is the Soul of Christ and how does it sanctify us? What are we truly asking when we say, 'Water from Thy side Cleanse me'? Do we understand how His Passion is to Comfort us? With surprising clarity, this little book reveals the true meaning of this mystical prayer and challenges us, now enlightened, to sincerely seek from God the bold petitions therein. I keep this book with me all the time and find cause to refer to it often, for the lessons of it are too deep to be absorbed in just one... or even one hundred readings.

I have always prayed this prayer after receiving Christ in Holy Communion. Reading this book has given me more understanding of what I pray and has made me more united to Christ.

If you like the prayer, you will love the commentary this contemplative nun has given to us. This is a contemplative nun that has been forming souls in the way of discipleship and holiness. Beginning with more of a traditional translation of the words, she adds meaning to the prayer and then expounds on the meaning. If you have used this as a post-Communion prayer, as I have, you will find yourself bringing much more to this time of thanksgiving and meditation. Words like "sanctify me," "save me," "inebriate me" tend to place us more with the minds of the mystics.

I have been reading this book slowly because it makes me stop and really reflect on what is written as well as how it applies to my life. This is a wonderful book that I highly recommend. Each chapter dives into one line of the prayer at a time, and you will never pray it the same again. Beautiful.
