Diane Pomerance received her Ph.D. in Communications from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor She has also been certified as a Grief Recovery Specialist from the internationally recognized Grief Recovery Institute. She counsels those grieving from any loss; however she has a special interest in helping those mourning the loss of a beloved animal companion. The loss of a pet can be devastating to adults as well as children.
Dr. Pomerance is the author of seven nonfiction books about animals and the roles they play in our lives and in our world. Her first book was WHEN YOUR PET DIES designed to help children cope with and recover from grief over the loss of a pet. Her next book was ANIMAL COMPANIONS: YOUR FRIENDS, TEACHERS & GUIDES which encourages children to respect and appreciate animals. ANIMAL COMPANIONS IN OUR HEARTS, OUR LIVES & OUR WORLD came next and urges children to recognize that all life is meaningful and purposeful, and that all creation is interconnected and interdependent.
This book was followed by ANIMAL ELDERS: CARING ABOUT OUR AGING ANIMAL COMPANIONS which observes the many life lessons we can learn from our aging and elderly animals and how similar their aging process is to our own.PET PARENTHOOD came next and is designed to help potential "pet parents" decide whether to adopt a pet and if so, how to find the one best suited to their lifestyle and budgets. FINDING PEACE AFTER THE LOSS OF A LOVED ANIMAL COMPANION helps people of all ages cope with and recover from grief and to further understand the unique and powerful bond that exists between humans and animals. OUR RESCUE DOG FAMILY ALBUM is Dr. Pomerance's seventh book and, featuring beautiful color photographs, is an homage and tribute to the over forty dogs she has rescued, adopted and rehabilitated. The book shares the often sad and poignant stories of the dogs she came to know and love.
Dr. Pomerance has appeared as a featured guest on numerous television and radio programs such as MSNBC, WEBMD.COM, CNN Headline News, Fox & Friends, Fox News, Hallmark Channel, Montel Williams, The Daily Buzz and Lifetime TV. She has also authored hundreds of articles and been interviewed in many magazines including Martha Stewart Living, Redbook, Woman's World, Dog Fancy, Quick & Simple, etc.
Dr. Pomerance is passionate about animals and their welfare. She is a member of many animal welfare and environmental organizations and is actively involved in worldwide conservation efforts.
