5.0 out of 5 stars Huge help!
I ordered this on the same day I ordered my AC:CF. It's been a huge help. While there is basically not a lot of huge changes in CF from WW, the book shows all the furniture types (and how they look layed out in a room), all the bugs, fish, fossils, gyroids, pictures, clothes etc. It also shows you how to get things like the silver and gold tools, how much you need to...

3.0 out of 5 stars A lot of mistakes...
This book has a lot of great info, and it is helpful in many ways, but there are a lot of mistakes in it:

page 17: "Deposit Gifts"
it says when you donate 10,000 bells you get the box of tissues, and 1,000,000 you get the piggy bank. at 10,000 you actually get the shopping card, then at 100,000 you get the tissues. at 1,000,000 you get a GOLD shopping...

3.0 out of 5 stars A lot of mistakes..., January 8, 2009

This review is from: Animal Crossing: City Folk: Prima Official Game Guide (Prima Official Game Guides) (Paperback)
This book has a lot of great info, and it is helpful in many ways, but there are a lot of mistakes in it:

page 17: "Deposit Gifts"
it says when you donate 10,000 bells you get the box of tissues, and 1,000,000 you get the piggy bank. at 10,000 you actually get the shopping card, then at 100,000 you get the tissues. at 1,000,000 you get a GOLD shopping card, and at 10,000,000 you get the piggy bank.

on page 135 it shows several models (house models and town hall) and they say they are spotlight items available from Nook's for 1,800 bells. these models are NOT for sale, the houses you get through HRA points and the town hall model you get after you've had a town for one year.

page 161: the new year's shirt 2011 is pictured as the alternate "Frog shirt" which is actually a regular shirt you buy at able sisters. the new year shirt should be of a bunny, as they are based on the chinese zodiac animals

there are a few more, but these ones really threw me off. If you're like me, you depend on this book for information, especially when it comes to what items you can and can not sell.

I also don't understand why the guides never have hybrid guides or hairstyle guides. I think everyone would appreciate having that info too.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not what I would expect from a game "guide", February 8, 2009

I played Animal Crossing a few years back when it was released for the Game Cube. It was a fun distraction that my partner and roommate spent a lot of time on. So when I heard it was being released for the Wii, with added features, I was kind of excited.

After ordering the guide, and while waiting for its arrival, I made my town, and jumped right in... for any "important" tips I needed, I checked online Wiki's. I discovered that there is a pattern to the questions Rover (the Cat on the bus) asks you, which would determine what style of face your character gets... after the fact, of course. So I deleted myself, and made my character over.

Then after a few days, the "guide" arrived... It's a cute book... and it does have some good information... but nothing really important other than the lists of items, accessories... insects and fish.

The really "important" things.. like the question pattern for your character creation... not there. The question pattern from the Poodle in the City to change your hairstyle... not there. The fact that if you speak to the Pigeon in the cafe over the course of a week (once a day for seven days) he will offer to store your gyroids for you.)

It was also online that I read that the guide has many mistakes in it. I am not sure exactly how many mistakes, or what all they are... But I do know that the Town Fund amounts are not accurate. By going by what they have listed, you end up losing hundreds of thousands of Bells...

So, I've been using the book as a sort of catalog. To keep track of items that I've found so that I can refer to it, instead of seeing Nook any time I need to check my inventory.

If you are completely new to Animal Crossing... this may be of some use to you. If you have played either the GC or the DS version... and have an idea of what the game play is like.. and what is expected of you as a resident... skip this. For any real information... hints... face/character creation guides... etc, I'd stick to online wiki's, http://accf.wikispaces.com/ is a good one. They are free. They are more accurate. And they have people that list the friend codes, so you have a better chance of making friends and expanding your game play that route.

I hope this review is helpful.

There is 2 full pages dedicated to each month to show what fish/bugs are available at that time, which holidays there are and even who's birthday it is.

This book is absolutely recommended to the AC:CF players...especially if this is the first time they've played.

I never played any of the Animal Crossing games until this one, so I bought the guide, hoping that it would help me quite a bit.

It was a huge disappointment. Not only does it not explain things in enough detail for you, it has erroneous information about the game in it. Little details are wrong, but still, quite annoying.

I'd recommend new players of AC just find information on the many websites and wiki areas created for the game. There is quite a big community and they have been very helpful to me so far.

2.0 out of 5 stars I payed 20 bucks for this?!, March 19, 2009
This review is from: Animal Crossing: City Folk: Prima Official Game Guide (Prima Official Game Guides) (Paperback)
I'm going to assume that this guide only has a 4.5 rating due to a rush of hasty reviews, because I have been playing this literally since the day it came out and there is plenty missing from this guide. I have been a fan of this series since its debut Game Cube release. I even bought, and still own, the official Nintendo guide for it. And I can tell you that I will never go for anything less than official Nintendo guides from now on. Now, I won't completely blame the author; maybe he was only handed a beta version of this game. But there are mounds of incorrect and missing information in this guide. So much that I'm not sure if I'll even be able to list them all. It's already been discussed that some of the values of items and even the town funds have been incorrect, so I'll let that one go. But the fact that just this week I noticed that they don't even list St. Patrick's Day in the calendar as a holiday drove me to finally write a review.

This guide is a waste of money. I only bought it for the visual aids and to prevent myself from going blind from staring at online guidebooks all day. But at this point, I would much prefer the latter. They don't give tips on hairstyles, they don't even make an effort to tell you how to cross-pollinate flowers, they don't even mention which furniture has feng shui properties. This guide book is pretty much just one giant, cluttered checklist of misinformation. Save your money and go online.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love this Book!!, December 4, 2008
This review is from: Animal Crossing: City Folk: Prima Official Game Guide (Prima Official Game Guides) (Paperback)
I bought this book before the game to see what it was all about and we have all fallen in love with it. It has been a huge help! We love being able to see pictures of the bugs and fish and which ones are available during which times of day and year. Also, seeing pictures of all the different furniture options for house decorating is fun. We loved all of the different tips you get on little things that make a huge difference like planting a silver shovel for 4 days to get a gold shovel or when certain visitors will come and what gifts they bring plus how to get them. It includes different holidays that you can visit other countries and just tons of helpful hints! It just really helped with lots of little things and big things really and adds to our enjoyment of the game. Our whole family read it and we use it for a source of reference.
It is definitely worth buying and keepig on hand!

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice to have but not Necessary, February 7, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Animal Crossing: City Folk: Prima Official Game Guide (Prima Official Game Guides) (Paperback)
I think the guide is nice to have for several reasons. It has great pictures of the items and the furniture sets which can give some pretty good ideas on how to set up your rooms. For the most part it lists pretty accurate buy and sell prices for everything in the game (there are a lot of errors as well).

However, as others have stated, it doesn't have cross-breeding information which I would have liked. The fish/insects chart is difficult to read. And it doesn't help with character faces or hair guides, but all of this is available online for free.

There are mistakes in prices for buying and selling. My Redd always charges almost twice what the guide says he will charge for Redd only items. That part has never been accurate. The price for selling bees is incorrect. What you will get for depositing bells is wrong. The day you will get your New Years shirt is wrong - the guide says Tortimer will pass it out on New Years Eve but it really happens the next day on January 1. There are really too many errors to list in a review.

So while the checklist portion of the guide is helpful and the pictures are nice to have the guide itself is not really necessary to playing the game easily. You can get any information you need online for free.

5.0 out of 5 stars Helpful Friend, January 7, 2009
By
This review is from: Animal Crossing: City Folk: Prima Official Game Guide (Prima Official Game Guides) (Paperback)
This book is really helpful. After reading the reviews I was worried it would be confusing. It is not. I loved how they put the price of things and pictures. Normally I would have to run and get a fossil checked in the museum and run to Tom Nooks and then run back to the museum if I want to sell a fossil. Now I just look up the fossil and see if I want to donate it or sell it. I can also do the same with fish and bugs. It also has pictures of people who can move into your town. What visitors will come to your town and what gifts they will give you. Another thing I enjoyed was they had a check list by all the things you could collect.
I was having alot of trouble making room that the Happy Room Academy liked. This book tells you what to do. It also shows you room themes what items are in them where you buy them how much they cost how much you can sell them for. They give you an example of what a room might look like.

I love this book it is so worth $13. I even love mine even though I bought mine for $20. It was still worth it. This might just be my favorite book ever!

We waited nine months after purchasing Animal Crossing to purchase this book (mostly for my son, although I sometimes play with him). I don't know how one would ever figure out all there is to do without it. We were basically playing without a clue for nine months. Admittedly, we weren't miserable without the book, but it has been very helpful. My son plays this game for about an hour or two a week (sometimes none - sometimes more) and enjoys reading about the intricacies of Animal Crossing in the guide. By the way, it was much cheaper to purchase from Amazon than in a store.

The information in the book is very helpful to navigate the animal crossing world. Glad I bought it or I would have no idea what to do when some of the crazy characters just pop in to town. Hepful for obtaining theme furniture too. A must have for animal crossing/city folk fanatics.
