Our dog had always had soft stool, but when he started having diarrhea every day, we took him to the vet. (After trying just about every other remedy we could think of - pumpkin, switched his food, gave him probiotics, etc. etc.) They checked his stool and said he had a high bacteria count. At the time I had asked if perhaps he wasn't producing enough enzymes, to which the vet responded "Maybe." They proceeded to put him on antibiotics and an artificial stool hardener for about 6 weeks, which only helped superficially. Once he was off the stool hardener, he was back to having diarrhea. I went with my initial idea (I had done a TON of research prior) that the cause was an inadequate production of enzymes (which, as it turns out, can lead to an increase in bad bacteria in the intestines - go figure). With my fingers crossed, I ordered a bottle of Animal Essentials Plant Enzymes and Probiotics. Within a few days of administering the enzymes with each meal, my dog was no longer having diarrhea. Within about another week, his stool was actually firm, which it had never been. I'm happy to say that well over a month later, we have not had a single bout of diarrhea and his stool is firm and normal! Since starting the enzymes, his energy has increased (he's actually digesting his food!) and his coat has improved (again - all those tasty essential fatty acids are actually being used!). We are so thankful this product exists and can't recommend it enough!

IMMUNE SYSTEM RESTORED,
By
This review is from: Animal Essentials Plant Enzymes & Probiotics, 300 Grams (Misc.)
When my Giant German Shepherd was just a few months old he spent 3 weeks with a trainer. When he returned from the kennels there he had a skin infection. The vet prescribed antibiotics and gave him a cortizone shot. To make a long story short, this began a very ugly cycle. These intitial treatments broke this pup's immune system. He became allergic to many things, food, his tic & flea treatment, etc. As a result he would have ear infections on a regular basis, diarrhea, and would constantly chew at his rump. We'd take him back to the vet and he'd prescribe more of the above. The poor guy would be up all night chewing and scratching himself and suffering. This went on for many months. Someone with a holistic persective finally advised that it sounded as though his immune system was out of wack due to all of drugs, etc. and that I should try this product. I began using it and within 10 days an improvement began. After a month, he almost never scratched, etc. He's been on it now for 6 months and hasn't had diarrhea (which had been a couple times a month), he's back on his tic & flea treatment with no negative reaction. He sleeps through the night, his coat has improved and he's gaining weight at a more appropriate rate.We will keep him on this stuff forever. It seems he had developed a yeast infection from all the drugs and now it's gone!

My poor 3 year old female Pit Bull has suffered with allergies, skin issues/infections, yeast, and bacteria for the better part of the last 2 years. I worked at a vet and till shad trouble getting her any relief and most things were just a temporary band-aid to the symptoms, not a fix. We did round after round of antibiotics, anti-fungal, antihistamines, mite treatments, diets, supplements, ear drops/ointments, shampoos, and sprays. Just before I tried this product I was giving her the highest max dose of Benadryl every single day. I started doing some research online and found that many people had dogs with similar issues found success by treating the immune system and problem from the inside out. My vet kept insisting that the root is probably a food allergy, but of course without expensive testing we couldn't be sure. Food trails at home didn't work well because we kept trying more and more premium foods with alternative ingredients and they aren't cheap. I have 4 dogs and go through 20 pounds of food a week. It is hard to feed different diets and there is no way I can keep my husband from giving them table scraps, it just won't happen. It got to where it didn't seem she felt any better on one food than another. So after finding this info online about adding probiotics and prebiotics being a super food. I decided to give it a try. Just three days after adding this powder along with a prebiotic there was a major improvement. Within a week I stopped giving her any antihistamines and still no issues. I couldn't believe it!!!! The itching, chewing, scratching, licking was all gone. I treated her ears with a topical ointment for a week after starting it and a week later after no ear treatment she is still fine. By now if we had just finished the vet recommended treatment she would already be showing signs of a "flare up". Great product that did exactly what I wanted. Thank you!!!

Really helped my Labrador,

I have a 20-month-old chocolate labrador who has suffered from various digestive issues since we met her. Most notable were her bowel movements, which were almost always a normal movement, followed by what can only be described as butterscotch pudding (sorry if I ruin butterscotch pudding for anyone, but it's true!). These were the norm, with the latter half of her poo becoming runny at times. Even her doggy daycare provider mentioned it. I tried many things to try and make her bowel movements normal, including changing foods (gradually), adding sweet potato or pumpkin to her food for fiber, softening it with warm water, feeding her 'people food,' etc. Nothing helped. One day my daycare provider had a jar of some probiotics on her counter. Since I had had wonderful success using probiotics and digestive enzymes for myself, I thought I would try it for my dog and purchased the Animal Essentials brand. It comes in powder form, and each morning I give my 72-lb lab a heaping 1/2 teaspoon full in her kibble. SInce I generally mix a spoonful of wet food in with the kibble, the powder all but disappears. But, I don't think it would matter. She licks her bowl clean even when I haven't stirred in the supplement, so I am guessing it has little or no taste. I am happy and relieved to report that her bowel movements are about 95% normal after about 6 weeks of using the supplement. She does occasionally have a 'butterscotch pudding' episode but they are much firmer than previous movements, and rare. I would recommend that anyone who has a pet with digestive issues look into purchasing probiotics and digestive enzyme supplements.

I purchased this item the, "Animal essentials and Probiotics" mainly as an aid in digestion for my dogs, 2 female Chow Chows and a large Doberman mix. Well I was hesitant on whether the Chows would even eat there food with the enzyme product mixed in with it, because they are as finicky as cats, maybe worse. Ate it they did with no problem. I am no expert, but I do know my dogs and the older female Chow, she has allergies, her coat and skin has greatly improved and they all seem to have more energy. They look better, all of them and have more endurance. Even though we feed them top quality dog foods such as Natures Recipe, Wellness, and California Natural, if the food is not being digested, problem with most extruded food, they are not getting the nutrients they need, this product would probably be very helpful in older dogs. I really believe I see an improvement in my Chow Girls and the Dobie mix, (110lb all muscle).

Great Improvement in my Aging Dog!,

I have an aging Dalmation that has some digestive problems due to other medicines he takes. He was having unpredictable bouts of diahhrea (inside the house nonetheless!) and we were about to get ready to put him to sleep when I read about probiotics. I like that this product also contains enzymes. After about a week of feeding this to my dog he improved greatly - the probiotics helped his digestive/intestinal issues and now he isn't pooping in the house and has more control over it. The enzymes are helping him digest his food better and therefore he is getting more nutrients out of his food. Because of this some of the hip problems and pain he was having started to improve. Overall this is a good product. It will last for awhile as the dosage is a quarter teaspoon per 30lbs of weight. I also give some to my other dog and I believe it has improved his bad breath! This will be something I purchase again!

Not Reccomended for Cats,

Purchased this product for my 2 year old Maine Coon Cat. He has signs of digestive upset such as gas, burping and super smelly stools. He has always been like this since kittenhood regardless of the type of food given. It was hoped that the probiotic enzymes might relieve these symptoms or at least make the litterbox smell better. Unfortunately this product made him very constipated. Needless to say, I ceased using this product. The seller of this product was understanding and refunded my purchase. Maybe it works great for dogs, but not cats?

New dog with GI problems for 6 weeks. They are now gone!,

We adopted a rescued dog who is anywhere from 6 months - a year old. She immediately had the runs upon bringing her home. We thought is was from a changed diet, so we put her on rice and chicken. Didn't help at all. The vet prescribed (3) different meds to help firm everything up. It only worked slightly, then when they were gone we went back to the beginning. The vet then told us he would put her on another round of meds, and that she needed to eat prescrption dog food. The dog food is EXTREMELY expensive. The dog food did nothing to help her, and the meds helped only slightly (once again). If she ate ANYTHING besides her dog food (a bone, food on the floor from the kids, etc)she had horrible runny stool.A friend of mine mentioned probiotics. I found this brand simply by searching on Amazon and reading fellow Amazonian's reviews. I decided to give it a try. AMAZING. After one day her stool began to firm up. After two day, her stool is completely normal. I want to stress she is on NO meds, and NO special food. We cold turkey switched her back to regular dog food sprinkled with the probiotic. I could not be happier. If your dog has any GI issues, I would highly recommend giving this a try. When everything else failed us, this was nothing short of magical.

Great product for multi-cat household!,
This review is from: Animal Essentials Plant Enzymes & Probiotics, 300 Grams (Misc.)
My husband and I foster cats and kittens, so we have a lot of cats coming in and out of our home. A lot of the fosters come to us with GI issues, whether the cause is frequent change of diet, stress, or the various intestinal parasites/bacterias commonly found in stray cats/kittens. We will give them this product along with any medications they may be receiving, many of which are hard on the GI tract also. I find that this product helps to normalize their stools quickly and have had no problems with any cats refusing the product or getting constipated as a result. I tend to give a little less than their recommended dose, which I believe is 1/4 tsp per day for cats. Most of the time I will give a rounded 1/8 tsp, which seems to do the trick within a few days. I sprinkle it on top of their dry food or mix it in with wet food. They gobble their food up like they don't even notice it's there, and I have had some VERY picky cats! I am able to buy this product at one of my local specialty pet food stores, but I found it for cheaper on Amazon. I started with the 100 gram bottle, but will buy the larger bottle this time. The product lasts for a long time since you give such a small amount. I am not sure what the dose is for dogs, and I have not given it to my own dog yet since I haven't needed to, but I would in a second if he started having any GI issues. I would highly recommend this product to anyone!

Good Science,

While I dont think it's a miracle product and & didn't clear up my lab/spaniel's chronic ear infections it does seem to do its job. My dog has a sensitive stomach & a couple times a week had very liquidy BMs. Additionally about once a month I would come home to doggie diarrhea in my apt. Since starting this my 2 months ago my dog has had no accidents and BMs are solid & regular- which makes me very happy.
