I did not expect a tea kettle this adorable (and it is adorable) to actually be the best kettle I've had. What's so great about it?
1. Solid construction, I've dropped it ( empty thankfully ) and it has no dents or scratches.
2. Easy to clean, no unreachable nooks.
3. Balanced, empty or full, it doesn't tip over as some previous kettles of mine did.
4. The handle stays nearly cool to the touch, I've gotten in the bad habit of picking it up without a potholder.
5. The lid fits tightly, there is no spill even when full to the brim.
6. The harmonic whistle is pleasant and plenty loud.
7. The inside material may be teflon (I don't know, it's just smooth and not stainless steel) so it stays really clean.
8. It has a wide bottom so it heats quickly.
9. The spout is easy to open, like a little handle, I've never burned myself and I burn myself all the time.
10. The water stays warmer inside if you leave it even though the kettle itself is not that hot to the touch.

All in all, exactly what I wanted.

But. I bought the giraffe kettle in February 2009. Sadly, it will be going in the garbage today. I love the look of this kettle and feel that as an ornament it's great.

The whistle broke within just a couple of days. No worries, we can live with no whistle. The handle gets really hot, so the giraffe's neck is burnt. The bottom of the kettle is burnt.

It dribbles, not drips, dribbles boiling water.

At this point it seems to be too dangerous to use.

I am really bummed because it's a really cute kettle & went really well with the jungle theme of our kitchen.

I got this tea kettle as a Christmas present and I LOVE IT. It's absolutely adorable; I leave in on top of my stove all the time because it just makes me smile when I see it. I drink a lot of green tea, and also often boil water for instant soups, and this tea kettle is just perfect. It's very easy to pour the hot water and it's just so easy to use in general. I LOVE the loud whistle. It's impossible to ignore, which is exactly what I need, I work from home as a programmer and I become so absorbed in my work that I ignore the phone, the doorbell, the washer and dryer signals, but not the tea kettle! Someone said in another review that you need a towel to open the spout, but I have the Giraffe kettle and I don't have that problem, I can open the spout with my hand immediately after I hear the whistle and it's not hot. Same with the handle, it doesn't get hot, I never use a potholder to pick it up. I do use medium heat on my stove as suggested in the instructions, maybe if you use high heat then the handle and spout will get hot. And even at medium heat this tea kettle boils water really, really fast!

Ok so this tea kettle is VERY VERY CUTE!!I wanted to give it a full 5 stars... but pouring hot water is more difficult because there isnt a button near the handle to open the spout. You MUST wait a minute before lifting the nose to pour or youll burn yourself...you always need a towel handy..unlike the regular plain kettles with buttons that open the spout.

I purchased the giraffe tea kettle a few weeks ago and have used it daily since. I read all of the recent reviews before purchasing it and was aware of the comments made. The whislte is a low groaning sound. As my last kettle burned because it didn't have a whistle, I was very cautious about listening for this one. At first, the whistle would work intermittently but after ensuring that both the spout cap and lid were on tight, it has worked every time. Also, I put the heat on medium and there is no problem with the water boiling much slower. I love it!

The only reason I don't give it 5 stars is because it rusts right where the spout attaches to the pot... the way the spout attaches creates a little spot where water gets trapped and there's not much you can do. But otherwise, it's great!! And the sound it makes when water boils is a refreshing change from the anoying whistling of other kettles.

I have had this kettle for about two years. The good: It is adorable, there is no paint damage or any dents (with everyday use) it is easy to clean with a dish rag if you happen to splash something on it, the inside has held up well: no film has started to come off in the water as with previous kettles.

The reason I only gave it 4 stars: In the beginning the whistle was a low tone that was far less annoying than many others but still loud. Unfortunately it stopped working within the first 2 months. Over all, I love it :)

To fix the whistle: just turn the metal thing inside the spicket cap so the lines point towards the counter and it works a little better but not super loud.

I received this item as a gift about 6 years ago and loved it. It still is in great condition and I have not had any problems with rusting or paint peeling. Definately and 'eye-catcher' in the kitchen.
