We all have that one special person we loved that we hold all of the others up against. The person who, in your thoughts, becomes something of a myth, something you can never let go. Suppose this person died, and years later you find her alive and well. This is the subject of Bert Rinehart's second novel. The narrator, Freddy, finds his lost girl while vacationing on the islands. They embark on a whirlwind romance, this mystery girl and him, and he becomes a part of her life again for a very short time. Her reason for faking her death is a bit anticlimatic, however, and it seems Rinehart threw it in for lack of a better excuse. Aside from that, the characters are believable and real.

Rinehart's style of writing has improved by light years over his first book, and his ability to develop and tell a story is unbelievable. His doesn't waste words, his prose is concise and fast paced and leaves you wanting to read more. He reminds me of Chuck Palanhiuk or early Bret Easton Ellis. I hope he stays around for a few more novels.
