On a recent trip we purchased many activity books for our toddler, and we were very pleased with this item. Thirty line-drawn simple mazes ask children to get chicks to their mother hens, snakes to their rocks, etc. Mazes are big (the book measures 8-1/2 by 11"), easy to complete for the beginner, and are suitable for coloring afterward. Good value.

My 3-year-old daughter loves the mazes she finds in her coloring and activity books, so I finally indulged her by getting her first book devoted to mazes.
To my surprise, she completed half the book in the first sitting. The book is of good quality, and the mazes are appropriate for beginners who don't quite have the patience or motor skills for complex mazes. However, for $4.94 I would have expected something with more mazes, or at least more than black and white pages with simple illustrations. If you're willing to spend $5 on a maze book, I would recommend steering away from this one and paying a little more for one of the books by Kumon to get more bang for your buck.

I bought this little gem for my daughter, age 4, who enjoys mazes. Fun with Animal Mazes was a real hit with her. The mazes inside were simple enough for her to do without being frustrating, yet challenging enough that she didn't get bored.
The book itself is large (8 ½" x 11"), unlike some of the Little Discovery Series books. This was another plus in its favor, as my daughter has trouble with the format of some of the smaller books. My only regret is that we didn't photo copy a few of the mazes and hide them for her to use again in the future. Mazes increase eye-hand coordination as well as conceptualizing spatial relationships in children. Recommended.

I bought this for my 3-year-old granddaughter. She loves animals and enjoyed doing the puzzles. She seemed to be sufficiently challenged.

Excellent Beginner Book of Mazes,

This is a nice book for very young children (2+). The mazes are very simple and large. Each maze is on an 8 1/2 x 11 page with an imperative sentence about the maze printed in large letters (approx. 16 pt. font) across the bottom. At each sitting my son would work a maze and then color the pictures on that page. If I had let him, he would have finished a good portion of the book in just one sitting.
I can only think of two negatives: the paper quality on the Kumon books is better, and once you add in the surcharge Amazon tags on to the price of this book you may question the value of this nice book of very simple mazes. |
