5.0 out of 5 stars Animal Physiology
From explaining how a mammal can stay underwater for lengthy periods, to how a camel can survive without water for days, this is a fascinating description of all types of animals and their unique ways of living. I never knew quite how fish breathe, nor how birds survive freezing temperatures. This is one book I can pick up, open to any page, and find the contents more...

5.0 out of 5 stars Animal Physiology, September 29, 2006
This review is from: Animal Physiology (Hardcover)
From explaining how a mammal can stay underwater for lengthy periods, to how a camel can survive without water for days, this is a fascinating description of all types of animals and their unique ways of living. I never knew quite how fish breathe, nor how birds survive freezing temperatures. This is one book I can pick up, open to any page, and find the contents more intriguing than any mystery. It explains in depth the most recent current knowledge with examples of studies when researchers are still unclear about the answers. I am a nurse, not a physiologist, and find it easily comprehensible.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent!, April 19, 2008
By
This review is from: Animal Physiology (Hardcover)
This is an excellent text book. I was privlaged enough to have Dr. Hill as a professor, and this book truely does justice to his wealth of knowledge. It is easily comprehended by physiologists as well as any other students in general. It goes in depth into a wide variety of questions, provinding many enlightening examples and illustrations. Really a great book for all students.

This was my first time buying a loose leaf version of a text book. I love that this is an option for a more student friendly price. I wasn't sure how I would like it but so far it works really well. I split it into two halves in different 3 ring binders so it is lighter and I can bring it to class easily. The only problem I foresee is ripping pages. The 3 hole punches have no reinforcement so with more use I bet the pages will start tearing through. The information in the book seems really good so far as well, nice pictures and diagrams.

5.0 out of 5 stars A good buy for any biologist/zoologist, May 2, 2006
This review is from: Animal Physiology (Hardcover)
Dr. Hill is as wonderfully knowledgable and intelligent in his writing as he is in his teaching. Fortunate enough to have him as a professor and, incidentally, use his book (co-written with Wyse) as a resource, I strongly recommend it to anyone interested in animal physiology or to any biologist/zoologist.

Great illustrations. Book is easy to understand. I find the new chapter Genomics and Proteomics relevant to understand the evolution of modern research.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best textboot I've ever read, February 20, 2011
I bought this book for a physiological ecology class last year. The professor was the best I've had and covered more material in 15 weeks than most do in a year, and we still didn't get through this entire book. Though incredibly information dense, Hill's Animal Physiology is easy and fun to read and packed full of helpful pictures and diagrams. It covers nearly everything, often times in significant detail, yet still finds a way to explain things so that anyone with a little biology background can understand it. Everyone in biology should have this book. I'm currently re-reading various chapters relevent to my current studies and am amazed at how much I'm picking up from going through it a second time. It really is that good. For ~$100, this is a bargain.
