Fun shock value, but also a great and better option than stereotypical toys. Niece and nephew raced them through obstacle courses. Plump and kinda "cute" actually, though may be scary for <5yr-old. Looked at other RC tarantulas and this one, Animal Planet/Bowen Hill, is definitely the best made one. The Uncle Milton, Discovery Channel, and National Geopgraphic ones were all comparably bad and aesthetically less pleasing, "skinnier." Bought it at ToyR Us for $19.99 and added a 1.5 year replacement warranty (just in case) for $3.00.

When my son opened this gift on his 5th birthday I predicted it would be another RC toy that would last for maybe 2 months... if it worked at all.
How wrong I was. It's been dropped, smashed into walls, legs rotated/pulled off (they push right back on) and yet it still braves on as creepily as ever. And I'm still waiting for it to need batteries! One of the best toys I've seen in a while.

Be warned, not usable on even low to moderate pile carpets, it just cannot move. It will need a firm surface. The steering is not dynamic, i.e. you cannot move and turn at the same time. Turning consists of spinning only one of the two wheels, like a tracked vehicle. Remote range seems pretty short, only about 15ft before it starts having issues.
Other than the above, it's as durable and creepy as you could want. Larger than expected, around 10" in diameter.

grandson enjoyed the spider the night that he got it, but just like most things he has played with it very little since. The spider was as expected, and as shown, nothing wrong with it.

We got 2 of these for Christmas for our boys. I put batteries in one of them and it did not work. I tried another set of brand new batteries to find that one of the batteries were scorching HOT. Apparently, the wire leads were improperly switched during manufacturing. It caused one of the batteries to short and overheat. I thought this was an isolated incident. I put in batteries to the second one and it worked fine. An 45 minutes later, it stopped working. I tested the batteries and they were all fine. I am livid because this is not just 1, but 2 bad tarantulas! The quality is poor and I am appalled because it is marketed under "Animal Planet" brand. I will be taking this up with them the next business day. What a way to ruin my boys' Christmas. Stay far away from this toy!

Well made toy. Remote works from a good distance away. Very durable for a remote control toy. Scary!

My Son recieved this for his 5th Birthday. He has had it for a little over a week, and it works great. It doesn't do to well on carpeted floors but zooms around our tile kitchen and dining room. My son loves it and it seems pretty durable and has held up well to my rambunctious boy!
