It works like a real pond. After about 2 weeks, the tadpoles arrived in the mail healthy. We placed them in the habitat and watched them transform into frogs over the next several months. It was facinating to watch. The water portion of the habitat has several levels so that as the tadpole transforms, he can come up from the deeper portion and start to breathe air. These levels also make it easy for the frog to get onto "dry land" where they can hop around or sleep in a little cave made of plastic. My 5 year old son loves it and searches the yard and house to find bugs to feed the frogs. The kit also comes with tadpole food. I would recommend it and I don't at all agree with the review saying it was not well designed or not worth the money.

I do not own this product yet but we have it in our class room at school. All the tadpoles grew up healthy and happy, they even mated! And to the person who didnt even use it and said it sucked and that there way that tadpoles could live in it, we have a cabin up north. And in a creek by it, in a cirle of rocks 1 feet rounded, there were so many tadpoles you couldn't even see the water! We studyed them, and all most all of them grew into frogs. I would have to say this is the best frog habitat I've seen thus far.

True, one reviewer has said the terrarium was flimsy, which it does first appear, but I have had mine for eight months now and am amazed! Unfortunately, the short booklet that came with the "Planet Frog" said after the tadpoles arrive would be the most exciting two to three weeks of the frogs development. BUT -- in reality it has taken months for the transformation since receiving the healthy tadpoles in the mail. One is a full size frog, the other is just now developing legs. You also get the added bonues of seeing the lifecycle of the live crickets which the frogs live on once fully developed. I am very happy with the product.

My daughter recieved this planet frog kit for her birthday in April of 2003. We immediately sent off for the tadpoles. The company informed us that they were out of Tadpoles and we would have to wait until September for them to arrive. In the meantime, my 9 year old opened the habitat and lost the instruction book. The Tadpoles did arrive (2 of them) in September as the company said. They had two small packets of food included. We were to give one pellet a day which we did. Then my 9 year old (about 8 weeks later) spilled all the pellets on the floor. I went to pet store, got more food, except it was "frog" food. To make a long story short, the tadpoles are still living in the habitat (It is now June 2004), but they have yet to even begin changing into frogs! My daughter has gotten bored with the whole thing, and I (being too much of a bleeding heart to see them die) am taking care of them and still waiting for them to metamophasize. Meanwhile, I have tried to contact the company to find out more about these tadpoles and how to hurry up their change to a frog and I find they do not have a website to contact.

I bought this for my 6-year old son, for Christmas. We just received our two frogs in the mail this last week and are having tons of fun with it. My 2-year old pulls me into my 6-year olds room several times a day to see the "babee fogs".We are all enjoying it so much, I am looking into getting one for my 6-year olds kindergarten classroom.

The habitat does look flimsy, but I would think that whith such a small frog it really shouldn't matter. And besides, using a soda bottle would be quite stupid once the tadpole turns into a frog. My tadpole order form was sent on November 27 and my tadpole isn't here yet. But I'm not at the end of my rope <yet>.

My son got it for his birthday in 1998. It came 2 weeks after we sent in the slip. Both frogs are still alive and my little [son] loves them.

I absolutely do NOT agree with the guy who said it was impossible for a tadpole to be raised in the tank. He said it would be better off in a soda bottle. This would not work, because the tadpole would drown once it started changing into a frog. The Set is flimsy, but there is no reason why it cant be. In the set you send an order for 1 or 2 leopard frog tadpoles, which arrive in 2-6 weeks, depending on weather. Once they turn into frogs, which can take from 2 weeks to a few months, u have a Frog.

My son is dying to get the tadpoles, but has to be patient. In the meantime, we lost the instruction book! Can someone tell me where I can find one or let me know how to set it up. Does it need anything besides water? At the pet store, they insisted that frogs need heat, humidity, a moss bed, wood chips, vitamins sprinkled on the live food, etc! That would cost a fortune! I seem to remember that we need bottled water. Any other details would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

I purchased this for my 5yr old son for Christmas and when we opened the box, We were disgusted at the fact that someone would sell this flimsy piece of garbage. The clear plastic is so thin and flimsy, it buckles when you pick it up. The clear plastic was cheaply glued to the brown base and when we took it out of the box, they separated. Both the base and the clear plastic are made out of the same flimsy plastic that probably wouldn't hold up a month. I regret not going to my local Books-A-Million since they have the hard plastic habitat. This was a big disappointment.
