5.0 out of 5 stars Can't wait for new album!, February 5, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Animal Rap featuring Kool G Rap (Audio CD)
I've been a big JMT fan since "Violent By Design" dropped in 2000, and i even consider it an underground classic. So fast forward 3 years later and the duo of Stoupe and Vinnie Paz are ready to drop the long awaited follow-up LP "Visions Of Ghandi", despite Jus Allah (unofficial third member) leaving the group last year. But for now we're treated to the highly anticipated first single, "Animal Rap" which features a guest spot from the legendary Kool G. Rap! And with 2 seperate Stoupe mixes (one which won't be on the album) you know it's gonna be hot. Anyway first up is the "Arturo Gatti Mix" (original version), where G. Rap and Vinnie Paz drop vicious verses over a deadly orchestral beat by Stoupe, complete with Mike Tyson samples between verses. Nice track, but the remix ("Micky Ward Mix") is even tighter...both verses remain the same, but Stoupe shows why he's easily one of the best producers right now (on a side note check out the recent tracks he did for Canibus - "Liberal Arts" and 7L & Esoteric - "Terrorist's Cell"). He adds a more mellow but even doper beat, and an incredible vocal sample for the hook...the single should be copped on this track alone, and it's the mix that won't be on the new album! There's also both instrumentals and a 10 minute Vinnie Paz interview, another reason why you should get this. Now let's hope "Visions Of Ghandi" drops soon and is as good or better than "Violent By Design".

This song is brutal, raw, whatever you wanna call it. There is one thing that I have to disagree with alot of people abour. I think the Arturo Gatti mix is a hotter version than the Micky Ward version, but.......let me explain myself. I do think that the Micky Ward beat stands alone as just as good a beat as the orgininal. Vinnie Paz's flow goes better over the gatti version though as it was the original beat he spit over. Anyways, if you havent heard the snippet of KUBLAI KHAN from babygrande.com then treat yourself to that. It is just as raw as animal rap. BTW, the interview is aight as well, and the instrumentals.........well its stoupe layin da tracks......nuff said. anyways i am lookin forward to the end of august. BTW, they are droppin the KUBLAI KHAN single in the beginning of August. cop it. peace.

5.0 out of 5 stars Vinnie does it again, February 5, 2003

Once again the best MC out today spits a raw verse with a dope beat and great production by Stoupe. Kool G Rap is pretty good too on this song. If this is what we get now, just imagine what the album will provide. I for one have been looking forward to it for at least a year and with "Animal Rap" as its first single it looks to live up to the hype.

4.0 out of 5 stars Mickey Ward Remix!, January 28, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Animal Rap featuring Kool G Rap (Audio CD)
This hyped up single didn't disappoint. Even though Kool G Rap comes with some fast-fwdable lyrics, and Vinnie Paz doesn't come with the "science and math" this time around (but still drops a listenable verse), this whole single is blessed by the beat to the Mickey Ward Remix! Stoupe does it again on the production!

5.0 out of 5 stars This is pure fire.... DO NOT SLEEP!!!, February 8, 2003
This review is from: Animal Rap featuring Kool G Rap (Audio CD)
Stoupe is an absolute sick twisted genius!!! Vinnie Paz perfectly compliments Stoupe and always busts a raw verse!!! A last and NEVER least Kool G. Rap is the extra cherry on top!!! Animal Rap definately lived up to the hype, despite being pushed back on what seemed like forever!...

There are 2 mixes on this single along with an interview (which is interesting, but actually not very necessary 'leave it for the website if anything')... There is a classical fast-paced version which is something perfect to get hyped to. And the other version is a much slower organic mind twisting version, with absolutely beautiful production by Stoupe... (if you think I'm talking from my [...] listen to the song, then tell me different)...

Jedi Mind Tricks is definately going to be a big dominant force in hiphop if they keep this up...

* P.S. - also be watching for the Canibus & Stoupe collaboration album 'Rip The Jacker & The Enemy of Mankind'...

I'm Out... Mind Power!!!
