I really can't say enough about this book! I routinely offer Reiki to my daughter's elderly dogs when I'm at her house taking care of grandkids. After reading this book and using some of the valuable tips and suggestions, I now have the dogs waiting at the door for me to come give them their "treatment." The chihuahua will yip and yap until he gets what he wants, and the older dog puts his hind-quarters right under my hands!
I've also used the methods from this book on our neighbors' cows that strayed onto our ranch. The first time, they stood watching me very intently. The second time, I had four calves come up to me and one sniffed my hand and then licked it a couple of times. These are all cattle that are not tame in any way and are normally pretty wary. The next day, when I was walking to my car, that same calf left his mother's side to practically stand in my way--as if to say, "More, please!" (I knew it was the same one because it has an ear tag and I remembered the number!) Recently, I've been sending Reiki, according to the book's methods, to a feral cat that we've been feeding. Before I started doing that, she would keep her distance from me and run if I got too close. Just today I sent her Reiki from a distance of about 10 feet. She got up, stretched and came up to within about 4 feet of me, curled up and closed her eyes and dozed. She was quite relaxed. This made me very happy because it's one of the indications the authors mention that an animal will show when it is accepting and enjoying Reiki. I think the most important thing I learned from the book was that we should ask the animals first if they wish to receive Reiki, and to tell them to take only as much as they want. Allowing them to make the decision instead of you making it for them is the key here. I look forward to continuing to use the principles from this book every chance I get.

This book is a gem. As a Reiki Master who is owned by five dogs, all of whom seem to want or need Reiki on a regular basis, this book has given me many insights into the differences, and there are many, between treating people with Reiki versus animals. The authors go into enough detail about what Reiki is to be helpful to people who are not familiar with Reiki, however, the book will be most valuable to people who do Reiki on people and want to know how to transfer their knowledge to the treatment of animals. The book covers virtually all the species of animal the typical practitioner might treat, including assisting dying animals in making a peaceful transition. Highly recommended.

Wonderful book !,
This review is from: Animal Reiki: Using Energy to Heal the Animals in Your Life (Paperback)
Animal Reiki is a wonderful book for many people: animal lovers of all kind will find many inspiring true stories, and Reiki practicioners (as well as other healing energy practicioners in fact) will get detailed and useful techniques and tips to apply.
The authors really focus on how we can help animals with Reiki and and they manage to avoid the common flaw of many Reiki books that ramble on who is right or wrong among all the Reiki schools. Fantastic and inspiring book!!!

Must be a Reiki Master,
This review is from: Animal Reiki: Using Energy to Heal the Animals in Your Life (Paperback)
I was so excited to receive this book only to discover that "each Reiki student should find the Master Teacher who resonates best with her philospoply and way of being in the world. ... If you have not learned Reiki, we hope this chapter has given you a starting point for talking with a prospective Reiki teachers about Reiki philosophy and practice."
This book lead me to believe that I could learn and practice Reiki on my pet. According to the back of the book, "Whether you're a newcomber to the field of energy medicine, . . ." This book, I am sure is great for a Reiki master but it is not good for someome that does not know Reiki.

One of the BEST Reiki books on the market!,

This review is from: Animal Reiki: Using Energy to Heal the Animals in Your Life (Paperback)
"Animal Reiki" by Elizabeth Fulton & Kathleen Prasad is absolutely one of the best Reiki books I have read. If you're a Reiki practitioner who does Reiki on animals or haven't but are interested, then this book is a must. It provides wonderful guidance on performing Reiki on dogs, cats, turtles, frogs, fish, birds, deer, guinea pigs, horses, pigs, racoons, squirrels, and all kinds of wild animals. There are so many good tips and ideas, even for the most experienced practitioner. The pictures and Reiki success stories are also very entertaining. Elizabeth Fulton has wild animals showing up in her yard for healing and has the photos to prove it. You'll love it. I HIGHLY recommend it!

Not what I expected. I wanted a hands-on instruction book. This is a nice story book. I would not recommend this as a "techniques" book.

Disappointed; book lacks instruction in procedure,

This review is from: Animal Reiki: Using Energy to Heal the Animals in Your Life (Paperback)
Animal Reiki is well-written and it is obvious that the author has had a lot of hands on (pardon the pun) experience. There are many case histories and the book reads well. I am disappointed however as there are no instructions as to the practice of Reiki in the book; the reader is told to find a Reiki instructor and take classes. This book reads like a diary not an instruction manual - which I thought it would be. I have purchased Four Paws - Five Directions through Amazon and this book give clear instructions on Reiki, acupressure and other holistic animal healing. I highly recommend FOUR PAWS - FIVE DIRECTIONS to anyone interested in the holistic approach to healing family pet animals. But this book, Animnal Reiki? Naw - don't waste your money.

Basically intuitive but still informative,
This review is from: Animal Reiki: Using Energy to Heal the Animals in Your Life (Paperback)
As a Reiki Level 2 practitioner, I feel a large amount of the information is either redundant or intuitive. It is worth reading, however, because there are specifics to animals that are important. Animals feel energy much stronger than humans and therefore more respect needs to be given during treatments. It also explains some of the behaviors or reactions that might present which is helpful. I appreciate the chapter on shelters since I currently volunteer at a local animal shelter giving Reiki and the authors give good advice on how to get started. The book is filled with personal accounts of animal healing stories which are inspirational.

This book opened my eyes to the potential to heal the animals in my life, exponentially. I am a second degree Reiki Practitioner. Primarily I trained in this method for my own well being and for the benefit of my family.
Now, animals come to me when they are in distress or ill. I did not realize they were asking for Reiki. Most times I took them to the Dove Lewis Memorial Clinic, especially if critical, or fed them and provided a safe place to sleep on the back porch while they recovered. Today I send distant Reiki to my animal companions and to animals I know are ill. It has made a significant change in how I view healing. Actually, more animals come to me, in general. They must recognize the universal power of healing energy that is Reiki working through me. It feels that way, for me. This book gives great advice on approach and respects the lives of the animals they work with. That is the most valuable lesson. No ego, and no humanizing the furred beings for personal gratification. I share it with people who have animals in their lives who love them dearly and wish to make their lives better or more comfortable.

This review is from: Animal Reiki: Using Energy to Heal the Animals in Your Life (Kindle Edition)
The positive reviews about the content pretty much say it all. What I would like to criticize is the Kindle edition.
If you want to get the most out of this book, do not read it on Kindle - there are parts of text missing, lots of typos, chapter headlines where they do not belong and captions for photos in the middle of text. It can be become very confusing and tedious reading this book on Kindle! |
