Gr 3-6--Informative and interesting, these titles answer many questions about animal behavior. Perfect for reports because of the well-organized format, they are also fascinating reading. Animal Senses explains how creatures hear, see, smell, etc., on the ground, in the air, or in the sea. How Animals Protect Themselves discusses the expected camouflage and armor, but also describes and explains the reasons for different types of dwellings for insects, birds, and mammals. Color photos complement the texts and lists of further reading (with no dates), videos, and Web sites provide suggestions about where to find more information. There are many books about animal camouflage and Bruce Brooks's Making Sense (Farrar, 1993) covers the senses, but these titles seem to put it all together.
