Better decks out there, December 2, 2009
This review is from: Animal Spirits Knowledge Cards™: Paintings by Susan Seddon Boulet (Cards)
I really wanted to like this deck. There are a few cards that are almost worth the price of the whole deck because of their beauty. But I find the interpretations to be off on many of the cards. I am also disappointed that almost half of the cards supposedly have the same keywords. You will get tired of seeing that cards deal with sexuality or feminine power. If that's your focus, go for it. Otherwise, find a more balanced deck.
I highly recommend Medicine Cards: The Discovery of Power Through the Ways of Animals (it is the book and the cards, even though they don't make it obvious that you're getting both in the revised edition).
This other set comes with a deck and a small booklet. The artwork is nice (not great, but nice) and the interpretations fit more with what I've seen in other animal spirit/totem/medicine books. Animal Messages

Thin interpretations cover the backside of the cards, January 4, 2010
This review is from: Animal Spirits Knowledge Cards™: Paintings by Susan Seddon Boulet (Cards)
I absolutely agree with the prior one-star review about the interpretations, but even more so than their being a bit off and monotonous, I was horrified when I found the interpretations actually ON the backside of the cards. I wanted to use the deck like a tarot deck, not seeing the face card, but with the interpretations on the back, you can't help but know what's on the other side.
The cards are so multifaceted that each will speak to the user in a different way, so interpretations are not really necessary. Although there are animals on each card, there is so much more in each art piece that the backside interpretation can't give a full meaning. That's for the user to see, and if he/she wants to know what a particular animal means, the most reliable source for that is Ted Andrew's Animal Speak. This deck would get a 5-star review from me if the rather thin interpretations were removed from the backside and a single art piece were put in its place on each card, so I could use the deck like a tarot deck.

Typically awesome artwork by Seddon-Boulet., November 12, 2008
This review is from: Animal Spirits Knowledge Cards™: Paintings by Susan Seddon Boulet (Cards)
These cards are wonderful for fans of Susan Seddon-Boulet! They are strong cards but flexible enough to shuffle easily. They are big enough for the details of the paintings show up but are small enough to fit into a purse or pants pocket. I take mine with me everywhere I go.
Not only are the animal paintings beautifully expressive with highly mystical and shamanistic, the explanations of the meaning of the paintings is well-written, clear, and concise. Additionally, the meanings of the cards are explained in ways that honor both Native American and pre-Celtic Shamanism paradigms.
The price is more than fair for what you get. And the cards make a GREAT gift, too, giving guidance and direction in a way that harmonizes without contradiction of any mainstream religion, so it is a good gift for practically everybody!
