As both a gardener and a foodie, this book opened my eyes to the political/environmental/social implications of the foods we eat. It took a while to make my way through the book, with several other books interspersed. However, by the time I reached the end, I knew my life had been changed irreversibly. I had read a library copy, but upon completion, ordered a copy for myself as well as one as a gift to a friend. Every trip to the grocery store now means asking the grocer where each considered produce item came from, and those imported from other countries are left in the bins. My goal is to become eat as many foods as possible that have been grown locally and organically. I found the book beautifully written and engagingly interesting. Highly recommended.

I read this book several years ago and found it very educational as well as entertaining. I have since ordered it for quite a few friends....especially those who are into eating healthy, locally grown foods and those who are now creating larger and larger gardens to sustain their families and to share with neighbors.
