Book Description

3 and upP and up
All aboard for dreamland! There’s a party on the train, and all the animals are jumping on board with their musical instruments. As the wheels start rolling and the horns start tooting, the pace grows quicker and quicker and the party gets wilder and wilder until — poof! The horns go quiet, the party draws to a close, and the animals are all tucked in bed, lulled to sleep by the train's restful rhythm. The story’s delightful text mimics the movement of a locomotive, making it fun for children of all ages to read aloud.

Editorial Reviews

Review

This book is irresistible. An empty train sets off in search of animals to party the night away. Soon a cow and her trumpet are on board, rapidly followed by a drumming goose. Once on board, a cacophony of sounds is emitted and even the driver starts to dance. The rhyming text echoes the train's rhythm effortlessly with a skilful slow decline into snooze and then snore mode at the end. There are rich opportunities here for cross-curricular links with music; all the instruments are named and watch out for unspoken sub-plot featuring a fox and a rabbit! www.readingzone.com Clamber aboard the train with a musical accompaniment of mooing cows, quacking ducks, a neighing horse and a squealing pig. With a rhyming text that dances across the page, gaining momentum as the 'clackety clack' of the train gets faster and faster, until their evening ends with a moonlit serenade and a trainful of snoozing animals. A lively romp with a soothing finale. Junior With its joyful rhymes and rhythm, this is a treat for some energetic reading aloud, and is likely to encourage audience participation Children's Bookseller

'Thank you so much for the brilliantly entertaining Ravenwood performances you gave at Bolton Library. As booksellers we host a lot of children's author events but agreed that yours was the best we've ever seen. Stella Morris and Debe Conway, Sweetens Bookshop'

'Andrew Peters made a dramatic impact on us all when he visited. He played didgeridoo and mesmerised us with his engaging retelling of episodes within Ravenwood. He was utterly captivating and copies in the library have been flying off the shelves.' Roseanne Pugh, Headteacher, Onny CE Primary School

'This fantasy adventure has a wonderfully original setting - a mile-high treetop society in the last forest of the future. But it's a world under threat from evil outside influences who want Ravenwood's natural resources. It's humorously told at a cracking pace, exploring deeper themes of ecology, conservation and power.' The Bookseller.

4.0 out of 5 stars All Aboard for An Animal Concert!, October 24, 2007

This review is from: Animals Aboard! (Hardcover)
I was roped into reading this for a story time and really got on board! The story is of a train traveling down the track at night picking up animals for a concert party. The book has fun pictures and a sing-song rhythm. Kids will catch on quickly and join in for the animal sounds. Great picture book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book for under $10., December 23, 2011
By
This review is from: Animals Aboard! (Hardcover)
I purchased this book at HPB when my son was about a year old. It is hard cover and is physically one of our longer width books at 11 inches. The paper in the book is thin and glossy. It seems easy enough to tear but amazingly my son hasn't tried to rip pages in this book.

The story is about animals catching a train, having a musical party, then going to sleep (I love bedtime stories where everyone goes to sleep at the end!). The animals each play a musical instrument and sing. after about 20 months my son would say "moo moo moo" with the cow and so on when the animals would sing their tune.

The illustrations are colorful and a little messy (going outside the lines for example). This doesn't bother me one bit and it gives this book a special look compared to others.

5/5 rating because this book of simple illustrations and rhymes is one of my son's top picks still at two years old. Just look for it for under $10.
