Editorial Reviews

Product Description

This cinematic musical travelogue equally embraces the high energy of pop / rock, the complex structures of chamber music, and the improvisational qualities of jazz. With inspirations as varied as The Decemberists, John Coltrane, Hungarian gypsy fiddle music, Eric Satie, and Japanese pop / jazz composer Akiko Yano, Animals & Cannibals showcases an expanded vision for the world chamber music genre, incorporating styles from Eastern European folk and Latin dance music to American blues and avant cabaret. These rich studio arrangements include myriad instruments not yet heard in 3 Leg Torso's music (tuba, French horn, piano, Weissenborn) and carry listeners on a sculpted sonic adventure that reveals a landscape both beautiful and unexpected.

"A success in the fluid netherworld between serious art and popular culture" --The Oregonian

"All the beauty of Astor Piazolla's music and all the spunk of Krono's Quartet's" --College Music Journal

"Often sounds like a recital of music penned by Antonin Dvorak and realized by a chamber ensemble co-led by Astor Piazolla and Tom Waits" --SF Reporter

I happened to hear this group rehearsing for a concert at the DeYoung in San Francisco. I was so struck but what I heard I tracked down the CD. A real pleasure - not sure I know enough to characterize it well. Kind of gypsy, kind of upbeat and oh so wonderful. I am really enjoying it.

While honeymooning in Greece my husband and I went to as many far away places as we could get lost to. The people were so friendly there and the music well it's almost like listening to this particular cd. Very folksy, gypsy like, upbeat, happy, just wonderful sounds. Since getting the cd from a person who totally loves 3 leg torso I feel like I was transplanted back to Greece. I play this cd whenever I want to escape from the craziness of my life and go back into a small village with lots of good music, dancing and happy people.
