5.0 out of 5 stars Animals, the last great book by a great writing team!
Well, it's near impossible to find this book, but look long and hard and you'll score it like I did! This is a very different take on the werewolf novel, just a great well-written book all around....Vivid characters, story, plot, EVERYTHING! This is the last effort from Skipp and Spector, after The Light At The End, The Cleanup, The Scream, Deadlines, and The Bridge,...

3.0 out of 5 stars its ok nothing special
the first half of this book was pretty good but the last half was not good.the good thing about this book is that the authors detail the situations pretty good.the bad part is that the story is pretty boring.there are better horror books out there.

4.0 out of 5 stars fast, fierce, & funny, July 29, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Animals (Mass Market Paperback)
An ordinary guy meets an extraordinary woman and gets taken for a ride (in more ways than one). Between the viscious Nora, her bloodthirsty and jealous ex-boyfriend, and a second, far more virtuous woman, our hero comes to learn the difference between what is simply wild, and what is truly evil.

5.0 out of 5 stars Animals the movie coming out this summer!, March 30, 2010
This review is from: Animals (Mass Market Paperback)
This is an awesome book and I recently found out that a movie has been made. The release date is June 15, 2010. The cast is amazing and includes actors such as Eva Amurri (Californication) and Naveen Andrews (Lost). I had the opportunity to prescreen the movie and it was well done. Make sure to check your local retailers; Blockbuster, BestBuy, Netflix, Walmart, and Redbox around the second week of June.

Here is some info about the film: [...]

5.0 out of 5 stars Raw, Extreme, Visceral, Exhilarating, sexy as hell, October 1, 2007

All of these words describe this book! Animals draws you in from first chapter. The characters are well defined, gritty, smoky, hard drinking, hard screwing, raw meat eating, bad people that your parents warned you about!! It makes you want to go out and howl at the full moon. Skipp and Spector deserve the title splatter punks. They have come out again with a book that should be on the top 50 of anyones list of great horror.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good, with a lot of food for thought, January 6, 2000

This was Skipp & Spector's last work, and it's a bit uneven to me. I liked it, but it didn't inspire me the way The Scream or Light at the End did. It felt... unfinished, to me, as if there were something more that should have been done but wasn't.

However, it's still excellent by most standards, fast paced and fun to read. It only pales in comparison to some of their earlier works.

For an interesting comparison, read this and then read Nancy Collins' Wild Blood. Two takes on the same theme.

This review is from: Animals (Kindle Edition)

Syd Jarrett is late for work, he's just hit a deer with his Mustang and he now finds himself in the woods; looking for a carcass that somehow wasn't where it should have been after the impact. Especially, considering the amount of blood left on the car. Syd wants to put it out of it's misery, but when he finds it, he also finds that something else is doing a thorough job of beating him to the punch. This deer isn't roadkill, never was. This deer is prey; and Syd has just stumbled, crowbar in hand, into the middle of the meal. The predator locks eyes with Syd, but does not attack. Perhaps it senses a kinship. Syd shows no fear. He keeps it locked in the basement, like a mean family dog that can't be trusted around company. There are other things locked away there as well. Animal agressions that the civilized and sane among us manage to keep in check. The beast sees this well. And Syd and the beast will meet again. Skipp & Spector once again bring the fine china to the table, spinning a tale that stands as a monument to the collaborative efforts from the team that have come before. Experience is everything, as a popular commercial would say, and does it show here. Expect all the visceral impact of their earlier works that defined a genre. Expect the tight, original plotting and vivid characterization. Expect the signature style of wordplay, the unique music of words that only these authors have. Expect it all, because it's there. Just don't expect love. It'll spoil the surprise. Oops. Like the hunter said at the dinner table: "Enjoy the game!"

5.0 out of 5 stars Cannot Put It Down!, July 28, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Animals (Mass Market Paperback)
What can I say-- this is my most favorite horror book ever. And that says a lot. I am a huge horror fan, and have read many a book. It takes a lot to scare me, and this book did. It is quite a ride; sexy, scary, suspenseful,etc.. John Skipp and Craig Specter are an outstanding team. You won't be disappointed!
