This review is from: The Animals of Paradise (Fables from the East) (Paperback)
The animals are sitting together in Paradise. They can wish for anything they want: Camel can have her sand, Fish his pond, and Spider can weave an unimaginably beautiful web. . . while Dog takes a nap. "How about a story?" purrs Lion. And so each of the animals thinks very hard of the most important story they can tell about their lives on Earth. Was ensues is a heartwarming and extremely funny collection of stories relating the experiences of the animals with the Prophets! Includes easily recognizable tales like Jonah and the Whale, the story of Cain and Abel, Solomon and the Hoopoe Bird, Moses and the Serpent and many more. Beautifully illustrated. Eighteen stories in all.
Teachers/Librarians: 5th grade to adult - Social Studies/Humanities. This reviewer was surprised and delighted that her five-year-old wanted only one story at each bedtime. . . the better to make them last for many, many nights! So it is not just for older youngsters. |
