Fun, classical Disney!, April 30, 2011
This review is from: Animated Classics (Audio CD)
I was looking for a CD of popular Disney music to inspire my daughter with what she could do with her violin skills. I purchased this CD and "Symphonic Suites of The Animated Classics" (also Disney music). This one specifically says it is performed by the 101 Strings Orchestra, so I was a little surprised to hear the trumpets start the first song. By the second song, the strings were featured prominantly, but not necessarily throughout, it was here and there. Another surprise was that this is not a strictly instrumental CD. Here is the list of songs, an * before the title, indicates vocals, but not by the orignial performers. (No * indicates no vocals.) "The Circle of Life", *"Colors of the Wind", "Go the Distance", *"A Whole New World", "Chim Chim Cheree", "When You Wish Upon A Star", "You've Got A Friend in Me", *"Beauty and the Beast", "Someday My Prince Will Come", "Under the Sea", "Zip A Dee Doo Dah". The CD runs 44:44 minutes. If you are looking for the strings to play a major and obvious part, (as I was), or if you only want music without vocals, this might not be the one for you, if you want orchestral Disney music and you like the selection of songs and don't mind some vocals, you will very much enjoy this fun, upbeat classically played CD. I really do enjoy it but gave it a four star due to the fact that I was hoping for more "strings" based on the performers listed in the title. When compared to the other titled CD I purchased, the other one is longer, and very similar musically, with more music selections and no vocals.
