I really wanted this to work. Looks nice, but immediately dented with every roll of the chair wheels. Then in one day the edges were warped up over one inch on each side. This was on berber carpet in an office. Perhaps on a hard wood floor it would work. However, the bamboo wood is soft and dented with every roll. within just a few days of use it looked AWFUL!!!

NOT recommended - especially for almost $200

This mat looks and works better than any mat I've owned. It arrives rolled up, which makes it easy to move from one place to another, but lies perfectly flat on my wood floor. (Some reviewers say it's not good for carpets, because the slats flex.) On my floor, it stays in place, you wouldn't know the slats flex, a felt pad on the bottom protects the floor, and my chair rolls easily. It costs more than the cheap plastic, but it's well worth it.

UPDATE Jan 2012: I'm still very happy with this mat. After three years, it's been very durable. It still looks and works great, where plastic mats I've used in the past would be covered with scrapes and smudges by now.

Those plastic ones make you look like you never graduated. Grow up and get something that actually looks good on a hardwood floor. This is a high quality item for a reasonable price. I would highly recommend this product.

Not a low-maintenance inexpensive solution to a rolling office chair on carpet. The mat is already splintering after only about a year. It slides all over the place and has to be repositioned frequently. I wouldn't buy it again.

Very nice product! I love the way it rolls into a fairly tight roll for transport. It is extremely durable and nice looking.

My bamboo flooring was damaged by an old office chair. I was a bit nervous buying a bamboo mat but this works well. Lays flat and the edges are eased for a nice feel and appearance. An office chair with standard dual element plastic casters rolls easily. After one month of use, the mat has small pits from the wheels. The finish is not damaged but it is soft bamboo. I'm in an open house on a windy beach so grit and sand are inevitable.

The color depicted here is too reddish brown. My carbonized horizontal bamboo flooring is just slightly darker than the mat I received.

The mat is constructed with horizontal 3/8" strips glued into 2" slats. The slats butt together tightly so it makes an essentially smooth surface. The backing gives a nice feel to the foot and no slipping.

Packaging is a bit silly. The shipping box is good. Open the box and you find the mat in a ripstop fabric bag with draw cord. Can't think of a time one would need it rolled up in a bag. Might be a feature for someone but seems like wasted material and added trash to me.
