This review is from: Ann Arbor in the 20th Century: A Photographic History (MI) (Images of America) (Paperback)
For those of us who grew up in the special city of Ann Arbor during the 20th century, or for those who came to school there and also fell in love with the city, this book is a treasure. Ann Arbor does better than most cities embracing its past, but many of the landmark structures of my youth no longer exist except in memory or in the photos contained in this book. Some things are still there, but are now quite different. (Washtenaw Dairy's ice cream counter, for instance.) The stories contained here along with the photos perfectly capture the charm and tonality of my remarkable hometown. Even those with whom I've shared the book with who personally have only a fleeting familiarity with A2, are taken with the presentation of the city's past. Buy it. Give it. It makes a wonderful and much appreciated gift.
