Book Description

Joan Clark s sequel to her popular book, Jackson Whole Wyoming, reintroduces us to Jackson Thomas, a fifth-grade boy with Asperger Syndrome. This time, we find Jackson in a new school, with new classmates. Hillary Branson, a spunky, independent classmate of Jackson tells the story from her perspective as the classmate assigned to complete a science project with Jackson. Hillary has a serious attitude problem and tends to lie; therefore, it comes as no surprise that when assigned to work with Jackson, she rebels in any way she can. As the story unfolds, the reader begins to see Hillary s troubled background and delight in how she and Jackson discover they have a lot more in common than they ever realized. Appropriate for ages 10-14.

About the Author

Joan is a Speech/Language Pathologist who has developed her career in the public school setting. Her writing is inspired by her interest in her students, their unique personalities, and how they interact with each other. Currently, in addition to working her regular school caseload, she is also a member of the Autistic Spectrum Disorders Assessment Team for her school district. In this capacity, she gets the best of both worlds- working closely with children affected by Autistic Spectrum Disorders and actively working with their peers as well. On the personal side, Joan is quite the traveler…she has visited all fifty states, lived in seven of them and did a four year stint overseas as well. During her travels, she got married, had two children, raised several pets, and enjoyed lots of adventures.

5.0 out of 5 stars Page Turner with Insightful Lessons for All Ages, August 11, 2007
This review is from: Ann Drew Jackson (Paperback)
Wonderful sequel...I thoroughly enjoyed this book taking me back to life in elementary school with characters and personalities of all types. It teaches a lesson of understanding and acceptance from many perspectives. This would be a terrific book for any upper elementary or middle school class library. Sharing this book as a class opens up discussion on many life issues that kids face while also touching on issues of Asperger's Syndrome without being preachy. Terrific story...now I must find the prequel JACKSON WHOLE WYOMING. Joanna K-V, Author A IS FOR AUTISM, F IS FOR FRIEND.
