Book Description

January 15, 1999
From world-respected tile and stone manufacturer Ann Sacks, here is an inspirational, beautifully illustrated sourcebook of ideas for using these materials in new ways throughout the home.

Color, texture, pattern, and arrangement are important considerations in crafting the overall effect of a room with tile or stone. This book sets forth the options-plain glossy or patterned porcelain, translucent glass or hammered metal, limestone or terra-cotta-and illustrates the possibilities with lush photos of completed projects. An understanding of the cultural origins of tile and stone also helps in adding ambiance to different rooms. Sacks explores the materials that will invoke a foreign flavor, whether it is Tuscan stone flooring in an entryway or hand-painted Moorish tile in the kitchen.

Varieties of tile and stone exist to suit every taste and budget. Ann Sacks Tile & Stone offers a comprehensive guide to using these materials on large or small scale to add a sense of luxury, culture, and character to any home.

5.0 out of 5 stars A stunning world of tile, January 28, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Ann Sacks Tile & Stone (Hardcover)
This is not a how-to-do-it book. It is a book rich with photos of installations and details of tile and stone that will suggest to the reader (and viewer) many possibilities for the functional and decorative use of these materials.

Contrary to what another reviewer of this book says, it contains far more information than a brochure of the Ann Sacks line of products would. (In fact, many of the materials and tiles illustrated are *not* from the Ann Sacks line at all?unless Ann Sacks somehow managed to install her work in ancient French farmhouses, at Middle Eastern religious sites, and in Roman baths!)

This well-produced book is a visual feast, and an inspiration for designers, decorators, and homeowners. It's well worth the price and the graphics are splendid. Anyone who works with, or who is thinking of working with tile and stone will want to own it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Unbelievable examples of tile, February 17, 2000
This review is from: Ann Sacks Tile & Stone (Hardcover)
The pictures and ideas are amazing. I didn't know such things could be done with tile. The book saved me from running from retail store to store to get ideas. I almost didn't buy the book because of another reviewer saying it only has pictures of product from Ann Sacks stores. I personally don't care where the product came from, the pictures and ideas were great all by themselves!

1.0 out of 5 stars A customer's honest opinion of this book, November 29, 1999

This review is from: Ann Sacks Tile & Stone (Hardcover)
I was very disappointed in Ann Sacks' "Tile and Stone". Rather than an overview of tile with all it's possibilities, this book presents mostly the line of tile carried by Ann Sacks stores. It is a biased book. A brochure from one of her stores would serve the same purpose and be much cheaper. Additionally annoying is the fact that every picture is accompanied by the words "stunning", "lovely" or "striking". There are MUCH better, more informative tile books out on the market.
