Excellent novel about Anna's plight,
By Eugenia Renskoff (New York, New York) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Anna Karenina (Norton Critical Editions) (Paperback)
Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoi is an excellent novel about a woman's unhappiness in old Russia. Anna is an unhappily married woman with a young son. She's resigned to her life and when she meets Count Vronsky, she falls truly in love. The society of Anna's time forced people to hide their feelings and pretend everything was fine. Anna pays very dearly for her love. The Levin-Kitty subplot was good, but Anna's situation was what really held my interest till the end. I read Anna Karenina for the first time when I was 14, and I've reread the novel several times since then.
