Charming 60s effort from Gainsbourg and Anna Karina,
By A Customer
This review is from: Anna B.O. De La Comedie Musicale (Audio CD)
This is the soundtrack of a TV musical made in the 60s featuring New Wave screen star Anna Karina and Jean Claude Brialy. Gainsbourg's songs are catchy and they are wonderfully interpreted by Ms. Karina, whose sensual singing voice is a revelation.

Anna Karina and Serge Gainsbourg's vocals are delightful and heavenly here... and if you can get your hands on this CD it is a rare treat. Indeed, it sounds incredibly contemporary and very seductive (as most of Gainsbourg's compositions are!)

I have to admit that I was a little disappointed with the quality of this soundtrack. There are a few good tracks scattered throughout but even loyal Gainsbourg fans might not get too many repeat listens out of this. Considering the expense of this CD, either the Cannibis soundtrack or the 3CD Musique de Films box set would represent much better value for money. Also, this is a Japan only import release and the liner notes were only in French and Japanese, not English. This was a bit frustrating, though there didn't seem to be much there anyway, aside from the track listing. A nice item to have in your collection though, I have to admit.

An amazing find!,

The music from this film is ahead of it's time. Although it was written and recorded in the 1960's it could easily be mistaken for music of today if played on current radio stations. There's great bass lines and guitar riffs mixed with mellow jazz and all strung together with sexy French vocals. It's like a fusion of Portished and Enigma.

The price was a bit of a deterrant initially, but I simply couldn't imagine living another week without this after hearing the latest Monsieur Gainsbourg Revisited album. I can definitely understand the apprehension of other reviewers, but think those with a taste for Serge's style won't be disappointed. After listening to such hits as Comic Strip, Bonnie & Clyde, and Je T'aime... to death, I needed something new and exciting. This totally hit the spot. I wish there were more album reissues like this that didn't cost an arm and a leg. Such a brilliant artist to explore.
