4.0 out of 5 stars A good biography on a not well known queen, January 11, 2007
By
This review is from: Anne of Denmark (Hardcover)
Anne of Denmark, wife of James VI & I, has not inspired very many biographers and historians in comparison with her predecessor, Elizabeth I, and her successor, Henrietta Maria. However, Anne was the first queen of both England and Scotland, the first consort in the House of Stuart. And given the rumors circulating about the sexuality of James I, it's surprising that more has not been written about their marriage.
This biography does a good job of detailing Anne's life as a princess in Denmark, in particular where she was during those years and her relationship with her parents and grandparents. Those years have been all but lost in other writings of Anne and James. Her years as queen in both Scotland and then England are also well detailed, considering that there is not as much information on her day to day life as there should be.
Overall, for those who wish to gather information on a mostly forgotten queen and court, I believe this biography is a good place to start.
