5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful piece of artwork, February 3, 2003
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Anne Geddes 2003 Calendar (Calendar)
the title says it all. It is not typical Anne Geddes (I would not have purchased it if it was). Anne Geddes portrays birth and the closeness a mother feels to her child quite beautifully. There is also metaphoric depiction of the babies being inside the womb, with use of plant life and other photographic manipulations. It is very artistic.

I've seen reviews on the book that the pictures came from saying that it is baby porn and complaining about the thin stature of the moms, and the fact that the infants seem to be in uncomfortable/precarioius positions. First of all, if it was pornographic or the infants portrayed were in any real discomfort/danger, I don't think this would have been on the market for very long (and we would have heard about legal proceedings). It is definitely not pornagraphic. The nude pictures are most definitely artwork and no nipples, or other "private" parts are shown. Most of the babies are 2-4 weeks old, so it is not inconceivable that these moms lost their weight naturally (especially considering she has pregnant pictures of some of the same moms). As for the positions of the infants, many actually enjoy being in seemingly scrunched up positions due to the similarity to the position they were in in the womb. Also, one must realize that a skilled photographer is capable of manipulating her photos, so it is likely the children were not in as precarious a position as some of the pictures might convey (such as the ones where the baby is seemingly coming out of a dangling leaf).
