Book Description

December 28, 1988
Anne (with an ‘e’ of course) starts out as a mistake. The elderly Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert had planned on adopting a boy to help Matthew with the chores on their Prince Edward Island farm. What are they to do with the red-haired, high-spirited girl who arrives instead?

Anne Shirley, with her boundless imagination and heart, slowly brings joy into the narrow lives of those around her, and into the lives of readers who have delighted in her adventures since Lucy Maud Montgomery began writing about her in 1905.

Anne’s courage, her enthusiasm, and her ability to love, have made her one of literature’s most beloved characters in Canada and around the world.

This beautifully illustrated volume, with a foreword by Kate Butler MacDonald, one of L. M. Montgomery’s grandchildren, is a treasure for those who find in Anne a familiar friend as well as for those who are discovering this “kindred spirit” for the first time.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book should be read by everyone, young and old., August 31, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Anne of Green Gables (3 Volumes) (Hardcover)
Anne of Green Gables was a book selection on a my son's list of required summer reading. Since I knew my 12 yr old son would never chose a book whose main character was a girl, I told him that it was required reading. My son read the book and found it entertaining ( I caught him laughing aloud a few times). He thought it was a little predictable, because in almost chapter Anne got in trouble, and someone else "had to clean up the mess." I decided to read the book too. I just finished it a few days ago, and it is now one of my favorite books! The descriptions of Green Gables, and the country side are so beautiful, and Anne's love of nature and life itself are contagious. I think many females must see something of themselves it that red headed girl. Is it her desire to be accepted, her love of nature and beauty, her melodrama, her bad temper, her vivid imagination, her stubborness, her honesty, her love of competion, her intellegence, or her nobility? We can find these qualities, and faults in ourselves and in so many women we know. We see our selves in the 9 year old orphan girl, whether we are 8, 10, 30, or going on 50.

5.0 out of 5 stars Three-in-one classics!, April 29, 2010
This is a great edition of three classic works.
For some funny reason, Amazon has made it hard to find the book's description so, here it is:

Anne of Green Gables is a bestselling series of books by Canadian author Lucy Maud Montgomery first published in 1908. Originally written as fiction for readers of all ages, in recent decades they have been considered a children's series.
Since publication, Anne of Green Gables has sold over 50 million books.

The three books in this edition,

* Anne of Green Gables
* Anne of Avonlea
* Anne of the Island

are the first 3 volumes of the series and are the parts of the series most suited for young readers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Option for Kindle, August 16, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
After reading other descriptions and digging through the *many* ebook options for Anne of Green Gables, I finally settled on this one.

As the cover says, it is unabridged and contains three books in the series.

What a truly wonderful story. I smiled and laughed all the way through this book. If reading about the letter `e' and puffed sleeves can make me do that - the author has succeeded in her quest. This title now has a spot on my all time favorite list. I was so glad to have Anne of Avonlea waiting to read as I finished book one.

Great formatting at a great price.
