Dalida was one of the most important female singers in the history of French music, yet she is hardly known in Britain or America. Her career spanned 32 years from 1956 to 1987, when she committed suicide. She recorded for the Barclay label until 1970, when she moved to her brother's label, Orlando. This collection contains (as far as I know) every song she recorded for Barclay in it's original form (no remixes here). Another massive boxed set is available covering all her Orlando recordings. The CD's that make up the two boxed sets were all made available separately.

The ten CD's that make up this box, together with the period each covers, are :-

1958-59 Vol 3 - Ciao ciao Bambina
1960-60 Vol 4 - Les enfants du Piree
1961-62 Vol 5 - Les petit Gonazles
1962-64 Vol 6 - Le jour le plus long
1964-65 Vol 7 - La danse de Zorba
1966-67 Vol 8 - Ciao amore ciao
1967-69 Vol 9 - Le temps de fleurs
1969-70 Vol 10 - L'an 2005

If you've got some of these, you'd be better to continue buying them individually. Otherwise, it's cheaper to buy this box.

During her years with Barclay, Dalida recorded many cover versions, but drew from a wide variety of sources from many different countries - Britain, America, Italy, Spain and Portugal among them. She recorded pop songs, folk songs, Christmas songs, songs from musicals and novelty songs, but most of all she recorded French songs.

The diversity of her music means that you probably have to have wide musical tastes (as I do) to appreciate it all, but if you've already sampled some of Dalida's music and you have an idea of what to expect, this is well worth the investment.
