5.0 out of 5 stars A really great album, very pleasant to listen to
I've been a fan of Annie Lennox since I first encountered her work in the early 1980s. She's come a long way, but strangely she sounds the same as she always did. Her strength was always her smooth, resonant voice which always sounds good, no matter how the songs change.

This album, her last one with Sony BMG, is really a work of art. It has a lot of good...

It has a lot of good tracks, which show off her beautiful voice. I like most all of the tracks, and found that my favorites are ones that I have never heard before, including A Thousand Beautiful Things, and Love Song for a Vampire. Strangely, my favorite track of them all is A Whiter Shade of Pale - would it be heresy to say that this might be the absolutely best version of that song every sung?

This is a really great album, very pleasant to listen to. I highly recommend it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Like fine china, February 12, 2010

This album is like a pice of fine china, showing off Annie Lennox's smoothe, smokey voice. I enjoy every track, but the ones I like best are Walking on Broken Glass, No More I Love Yous, A whiter Shade of Pale, A Thousand Beautiful Things, Love Song for a Vampire, and Shining Light.

I first heard it by checking it out of our public library. Once I listened to it, I knew I wanted a copy of my own.

4.0 out of 5 stars Almost complete, February 23, 2009
This review is from: The Annie Lennox Collection (Audio CD)
Lots of times in these reviews people seem to talk more about what ISN'T on the CD than what IS on it. But unfortunately I have to do that too, just for a moment, lol. That's the problem with "greatest hits" packages - you can't please everyone. Others have already mentioned the omission of Into the West, which is astonishing since it earned her an Oscar for crying outloud. I was also surprised to see that Waiting in Vain was absent as well, since I remember hearing that on the radio quite a lot back in the mid 90's and would surely consider that a hit most people would know.

But with that said, the album is otherwise quite good. I really like the new shot of Annie on the cover, and there's a neat little collage in the booklet, as well as lyrics. Of course any Annie fan would have most of these songs already, but it's nice having them all in one spot, remastered, with two new great tracks to boot. Pattern of My Life is an introspective ballad, and the inspirational Shining Light picks up the tempo just a bit to close the disc on a positive note. Songs of Mass Destruction and Bare, her last two albums, brilliant as they were, seemed to have been born out of a dark place, and in this small sampling of new material Annie seems to be looking on the bright side of life.

5.0 out of 5 stars I LOVE THIS DIVA!, February 19, 2009
This review is from: The Annie Lennox Collection (Audio CD)
I am so happy to have the cd of The Annie Lennox Collection. Its the best of the best of her four solo albums. Some of these songs might not stand out as "hits" to some people as some were hits in the UK and werent hits in the USA also a couple are fan favorites but all were singles (except for the two new songs "Shining Light" & "Pattern Of MY Life") which are both beautiful songs. Shining Light reminds me of THe Tourists..the band Annie was in with Dave Stewart before forming Eurythmics..I guess the closest to sounding like Shining Light from any Eurythmics song was probably There Must Be An Angel...its very refreshing and fun.
The collection is wonderful..also check out The Ultimate Collection by EURYTHMICS too if you havent already for Annie's best work with Dave as Eurythmics!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Lennox Redux, February 20, 2009
This review is from: The Annie Lennox Collection (Audio CD)
As a representative sample of Annie Lennox's musical career post Eurythmics, this collection is successful. As a collection of her best work, it is incomplete. Spanning her four independent albums of the last 17 years, it includes many of her radio hits, a few lesser known songs, and two new offerings "Pattern Of My Life" and "Shining Light." It is definitely a good mix of her music, but it doesn't include a few of her absolute best tracks. However, as always, Annie still is an American pop icon, and one of a very few singers who have the right to the title "Diva."

Missing from this collection is her amazing "Into the West" from the Lord Of The Rings Soundtrack, certainly one of her best and most beloved singles. Strange, considering her other soundtrack hit "Love Song For A Vampire" made the cut. I would also have loved to see "Primitive" from DIVA, which is probably one of her most overlooked songs. With it's slower beat and melodic string accompaniment, it would had been great to see it get a reintroduced to those who might have missed it the first time around.

I was happy to see the inclusion of some of her excellent tracks from BARE. "Pavement Cracks," is a great song from that album, and I was afraid it would get overlooked for a lesser offering like "Honestly" or "Loneliness."

I would have also liked to see "Don't Let it Bring You Down," from MEDUSA. A cover of Neil Young, it is another example of a great song that never made the pop charts, and would have benefited from a re-introduction.

This is the perfect collection for the passive Annie Lennox fan who wants a solid collection of her more popular tracks. If you already own many of her CDs, there isn't much new material, so I would recommend downloading the two new tracks and not buying the entire CD. Annie is still an amazing vocalist, and this collection is a reminder of that fact.

1.0 out of 5 stars disappointed, again!, January 3, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

I had to send the first CD back b/c of the poor quality .....skipping, scratchy sounding on many of the tracks. The second (replacement) wasn't much better. Some of the tracks skip. I'll be sending that one back, too!
Very disappointed. This CD is great, but haven't been able to appreciate it!
