Editorial Reviews

2010 release, the 13th album from the Canadian Thrash Metal gods. Annihilator has given the Metal world a sound that is one of the clearest, most tasteful mixture of huge, Metal riffs with the idea of the perfect song. In fact, many non-Metal acts and musicians cite Waters and Co. as huge influences in their Rock/Metal careers.

It's 2010 and I've heard one the greatest thrash albums of my life.

`Annihilator,' as an album is probably as close to perfect as you can get; with superb production, musicianship and Dave Padden's vocals which suit the band so well.

Killer riffs, awesome solos, tight and punchy rhythms, great vocals, and good songs make for this fantastic Annihilator album.

Classic Annihilator sound, riffs and solos. Yet, something entirely new and surprising! It has really heavy rythms, then moves to killer thrash riffs and then they come to something a little bit progresive to distract you, and before you know it they make up this incredible heavy riff that will blow your head. Also the voice is much heavier now which was my only complaint about their previous album "Metal" back in 2007. I would recommend this album to all of you thrash metal heads of the world! You will not be dissapointed, this is the album you've been waiting for!!

Note: This review is coming from a very very very devoted Annihilator fan who has all their albums, including the rarities, and has musically followed them for YEARS. I have seen the "GREAT" and the "really good, but not as great" albums from them.
What an awesome album. No offense to Annihilator's last however many albums, which I really really really do actually love, but they needed to up the speed, the heaviness, the attack, the solos, the angry vocals..... and they've accomplished ALL THOSE THINGS with this record. I have long felt that Annihilator has really needed to get back to the way they were, back in the days of their first two albums, (circa 1989-90) "Alice in Hell" and "Never, Neverland," and step it up a notch again. (They actually did that big-time in 1999 with the wickedly cool "Criteria For A Black Widow" album, but then slowed it back down a little bit again, but anywayzzz..... back to the regularly scheduled program) Well, they've stepped it up about, say 6 notches on this one. This could easily wind up being the best metal/thrash album of the year (if not the album of the year PERIOD). I couldn't take it out of my player for a month, easy. To me, singer Dave Padden is at his best when singing songs such as tracks 1, 2, 3, and 8, although ALL the songs on this album are great. I am ecstastic to say there is (to me) not one weak link song-wise on this record. Do you really need me to tell you that Jeff Waters continues to dazzle on the guitar? Jeff is perhaps better than he's ever been on this solo-fest. For all you solo-hungry metalheads out there, this album is more full of solos and "mini-solos" than ANY Annihilator album thus far.

There is a lot to enjoy about Annihilator's self titled effort, their thirteenth studio album and fourth full length with vocalist/guitarist Dave Padden, who is now the band's longest serving member besides founder and primary songwriter Jeff Waters.
`Annihilator,' as an album is probably as close to perfect as you can get; with superb production, musicianship and Dave Padden's vocals which suit the band so well. The album's only drawback is that it may not have that special something which elevates it from technical perfection to classic record status, but don't let that put you off, this is one fantastic record and if you haven't been keeping up with the band's more recent work then this is the perfect album to return to the band with.
The album is littered with sixty six guitar solos (or so the sticker on the case claims) and this may leave some listeners worried about variety; but the rest of the songs, with their mixture of classic thrash riffs and mid paced groove metal influenced sections, the mixture of harsh, clean and gang vocals and the fact that Dave Padden had some songwriting credits on the album as well as Jeff Waters results in an album where variety is not an issue, yet still has a concise and unified feel.
The album opens up with the fast and aggressive `The Trend,' a song which seemingly decries new bands adopting the classic thrash metal sound, while I'm not sure I agree completely with the sentiment on offer, the song is an absolute stormer and one of the most dynamic openers of an Annihilator album in recent memory.

Waters has formulated yet another cd that encompasses some true Annihilator styles of yester with some new riffs on their latest. I'm sure it will grow on me the more I listen to it.

i've seen around on the internet that these guys are posers to the thrash genre...this is the first album by them i've ever heard by annihilator so, i cant confirm or deny that (they do have 11 or so albums out). since i can only base my opinion on this one album i would say they are as legit as anyone else, this self titled starts out incredibly harsh with "the trend" (a song about the resurgence of thrash) and does not let up. ignorance about this bands history aside, this album ranks with the likes of overkill's newest endeavor "ironbound" and the greats like "rust in peace" and "ride the lightning". as far as thrash is concerned, i don't think (IMO) that "we" will ever see an album as good as heathen's "evolution of chaos" but this comes damn close. this fan pack is cool...it comes with an "annihilator" key chain, three buttons a sticker and a cool box (with that badass cover art blown up slightly bigger than the jewel case shows it).
