4.0 out of 5 stars Another Collectable, January 9, 2007
By
This review is from: WW II 60th Anniversary Collection (Das Boot/Anzio/Caine Mutiny/Dead Men's Secrets) (Includes Collectible Scrapbook) (DVD)
I have every DVD version of Das Boot. I have even watched it with the Audio in German and English subtitles, it never fails to shock me. Together with Anzio & the Caine Mutiny, these movies really start to bring home what our Fathers and Grandfathers went through during WWII, lest we forget!
When you can buy great, multiple movies together like this, it's a no-brainer.

This review is from: WW II 60th Anniversary Collection (Das Boot/Anzio/Caine Mutiny/Dead Men's Secrets) (Includes Collectible Scrapbook) (DVD)
Enjoyed the movies Caine Mutiny and Das Boot. Both exciting in their own way. Herman Wouk wrote the novel from which "Caine" was taken. It's a dandy of a read, also. The movie Anzio was a dud. Boring with a capital "B." I've seen more action in my kid's morning bowl of Rice Crispies. However, all in all the collection is worth the price, with special features like Dead Mens Secrets and the Scrapbook, that offset the disappointment of the one bad flick.
If you really like The Caine Mutiny as much as I did, you may want to try to locate a short story about the Last Captain of the Caine. It was written by Herman Wouk, as well, and provides an interesting look at his idea of what happened to some of the major players in the story after the mutiny incident. Das Boot also comes in a shorter version, which I have on VHS, so I can enjoy the entense U-boal experience on DVD all afternoon, or the VHS if I just have a couple of hours. The DVDs all played well with excellent picture and sound. The order arrived in less than a week.

This is a great movie trio for you if you like to relax while watching war movies on a sunday. Start with Caine Mutiny, then Das Boot and then Anzio. Anzio wasn't the best and was longer than hell but it started off a great nap.
