The book received is black in color with gold gilding. The one I received showed some minor scuff marks since it was not new and not a show stopper at best. As a collector, this may make a difference but for the casual collector this may not. The paper seems to be of a decent standard fair quality paper grade. The leather cover is not pure leather but bonded leather (leather pieces glued together under high pressure). Still this book and the binding put together seems tight and not a bad quality. Only time will tell upon daily usage. In my opinion if care is taken, teh book will last a while. The font used is decent and readable.

If you are in education, the annotations does make this a great book to appreciate and understand middle English. The illustrations are great and clearly histotical in nature. I find the book to be helpful and totally educational many times. My favorir eplay is King Henry V.

This book is one of three volumes in a set. You should consider getting the full set. If you love Shakespeare then this is a good book to consider. Half the battle in Skakespeare is to understand, appreciate and know what you read, especially in Shakespeare. It would definitely help to appreciate the plays and become entertaining as we imagine it. This book will help you understand the plays written and teh English used. Shakespeare is not for everyone because if you do not understand the play and appreciate the content of the play, the language will actually sound like a foreign language. Just being honest! Neverthelesss, this is a good book and the author does a very good job in educating and interpreting the plays for an avid historical reader. A good High School and college book to complement at best.

A.L.Rowse never disappoints. His introductions to the plays are worth the cost of the volume. The text has notes to the side of the page as I prefer. I highly recommend this book.

The best Shakespeare collection ever. Would be nice if the three volumes were broken up into three books, but still impressive.

Maybe the best one volume Shakespeare ever printed. Annotations make so much clear that might otherwise get by you. Great book.
