If you are a fan of the late Mike Seeger, and/or old time music, I highly recommend this CD. It really does feel as if he is in your living room playing with his friends and family. And what's not to like about the cut with Bob Dylan singing "The Ballad of Hollis Brown"?

This review is from: 3rd Annual Farewell Reunion (Audio CD)
One of Mike Seeger's side projects from the New Lost City Ramblers, he gathers together friends, family and influences, recording in living rooms, on porches, small stages, home studios. The guest list reads like a who's who of major folk, old-time country, Bluegrass and rural blues luminaries from the last 50-100 years. Fans of folk instruments beyond the usual guitar will be more than happy here--autoharp, dulcimer, fiddles, mandolins, jews-harp and many more are in the mix.
Not many people remember the FIRST installment of this series that Mike Seeger did back in the early '70s (which was actually called "The SECOND Annual Farewell Reunion"--to this writer's knowledge there was not a "First"). It was on Mercury Records, so it should be easily hunted down and reissued. If you can find a copy, nab that too. They are both outstanding documents of essential tunes and folk artists, as well as being absolutely great to listen to. Anyone not moved by this kind of music is probably either dead, or ought to be tied to a fence post and forced to listen one of the "Now That's What I Call Music" collections on an iPod until they go insane. PS: BUY the CD--the liner notes are worth it.
