This third volume in a series offers eight short stories written in 1990 by authors including Gene Wolf, Gary Brandner and Nancy Collins. Nelson Runger, Bill Fantini and Ann Wilcox offer polished, effective readings of the selections. Nina Kiriki Hoffman, reading two of her own stories, is less effective. The stories are good enough, but her rushed, untrained narration detracts from appreciation. For all of the others, the professional pacing--responding to the demands of each story--and characterizations make this collection a good choice for listeners who like their horror in small bites.
