About the Author

DEBRA KNAPKE is a horticulture instructor at Columbus State Community College, where she teaches courses in landscape principles, herbaceous plants and specialty gardens. She also has a garden design consulting business known as "The Garden Sage". Debra is a popular speaker at gardening events in Ohio. She also writes for gardening magazines and is a frequent guest on radio gardening shows. Debra is the author of five Lone Pine gardening books, all geared to gardening in the Midwest. ALISON BECK is a seasoned gardening writer, with 38 books published to date. She came to the task well trained, with a university degree in Creative Writing and a diploma in horticultural technology. The English-born Beck has been gardening since she was a child. Her writing reflects a talent for practical advice and a passion for gardening.

This remarkable reference begins with a five-page guide containing pictures of annuals, in alphabetical order by common name. This is an excellent way to verify just what flower you have in mind.

Next came suggestions on planning annual gardens with advice on frost-free dates and sunlight requirements for various annuals.
Planting advice and "starting from seed" suggestions lead to chapters on care, and pest control.

The first fifty pages alone would be very helpful to most gardeners, but the next 200 or more pages cover each plant in depth, with specific suggestions and LOTS OF BEAUTIFUL COLOR PHOTOS!

Just when you think this book couldn't get any better, it finishes with a detailed index and glossary, AND a useful chart section identifying annuals by qualities such as COLOR, HEIGHT, HARDINESS, LIGHT REQUIREMENTS, and SOIL CONDITIONS. This is an extremely user-friendly help for planning your annual gardens.
