5.0 out of 5 stars One of their best efforts, October 14, 2004

I have been listening to the Dudes since the late 90's when I listened to 'Primitive Streak' at a Borders listening station. I was blown away with their vocals and the originality of their music. I have all their recordings, except the new one with the mule. The Dudes are like a Cajun version of Sonia Dada. Their is just no other group like them. Mumbo Gumbo is similar, but the Dudes are much better. Every recording on this CD is a pleasure; it is full of 5 star recordings. 'You'll Be Satisfied' is a standout recording. 'Why Can't I Forget About You' is a beautiful, soul-felt song. 'Save Me' is fantastic, as is 'Sugar Pie' and 'I Know'.

I love music with harmony. There are some performers who can't seem to create a bad recording. Every Van Morrison and Boz Skaggs recording is listenable. Every James McMurtry recording is likeable; same can be said of Robert Earle Keene and Lyle Lovett. The same goes for Chris Isaak, Allison Krause and James Taylor. You will like every song on this CD. This CD will become a favorite; one to keep in the 12 CD changer in your car. This and Primitive Streak are the best Dudes CDs you can buy.

5.0 out of 5 stars In a word: Awesome, December 18, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Annunciation (Audio CD)
I fist ran into this band in NOLA, where I lived for some time. I was so very impressed (blown away, actually) by the band at JazzFest and followed-up with a hunt of my local music haunts. Being a fan of live music, studio tracks usually dissapoint. This album of heartfelt lyrics, melodies and harmonies is one of my absolute favorites. This is a fine representation of the band and some of the talent to be found in their home town of New Orleans (it isn't all Jazz, Cajun and Zydeco!). This disk seems to find its way into my car's player, my computer at work and is never far from my stereo at home. I have introduced many people to this album - and all have taken to it and the subdudes (always spelled in lower-case). Annunciation is my favorite. It is a true treasure.

I couldn't recomend a better album!

4.0 out of 5 stars Winwood Jr, November 28, 2004
This review is from: Annunciation (Audio CD)
I like the music on this CD very much, but am surprised none of the reviews mention how much singer Malone sounds like Stevie Winwood, esp early Winwood with the Spencer Davis Group and the first two Traffic albums. It's obvious to me that he has spent hundreds of hours listening to Winwood. Throw in a dash of Little Feat, lean on acoustic sounds and that seems to be The Subdudes formula. Not the most original music out there but so sweet it's like all-American See's chocolate, you can't help but like it even though you know there are more artful chocolates around.

This one hit the nail right on the head for me. I enjoyed the melodies, the instrumentation, the NOLA sound that isn't typical. And don't forget the lyrics. This is, so far, my favorite of the Subdudes albums. Particularly good to me were "Why Can't I Forget About You", "I Know", "Miss Love","Sugar Pie", "Save Me", "It's So Hard".
