After holding off on buying new knives for years, and settling with a drawer full of hodge-podge of collected crud, I finally decided to treat myself. Could not be any happier with them. Felt guilty at first for buying myself something a couple of months before Christmas, but I rationalized that with all the cooking I'll be doing, I'll be far better off. The are amazing. The rubber-like grip makes for steady handling. They are weighted perfectly. Comes with a great sharpener, as well as super simple instructions on how to care for them. (Who knew you are really supposed to sharpen them after each use! Takes two seconds, and will keep them like new forever!) Anyway, I'm still rambling. But I'm just so happy with them. And I love the santoku knife! The block looks great, too.

Have used many knife sets over the years, some more expensive than these. Was very pleased with how sharp they were out of the box. (I am used to sharpening knives immediately -- before using -- as factory efforts are never comparable to what we can, with care and the right tools, do at home.)

When it comes to sharpness, I am a sharpening fool: water cooled 10" sharpening wheel and all. My wife, on the other hand, is not so obsessed. And, she was very impressed with these knives as soon as we opened the box and started using them. And, after some use, they are holding their edge. The balance of the chef's kitchen knife (along with others) is such that they also have a pleasing feel when in hand.

Have not attempted to resharpen yet. But, given the steel they are advertised to be comprised of, should be fine.

Steak knives, not something I wanted (but, my wife had other views), are a delight. Instead of the usual serrated edge found on cheaper sets, they have an actual VERY sharp straight edge and should work well, even when that flank steak was not quite as tender as you had hoped. And, because they are not serrated, they can be sharpened more easily.

Do like the natural wood block. This set replaces a set that had a wood block painted black. After little use, paint nicks-- don't quite hit the knife slot with the knife -- made that black, painted block look unattractive.

I would recommend this knife set to anyone...the quality is great, the look is great, and these things are very sharp. Nothing bad to say about them.

I have had wustof trident for years and have loved them. I got these as a gift..they are the best ever. I love the handle it doesn't slide when my hand is wet. Great weight, german steel and great price. I love the santoku that came in the 15 pc. set.

I bought one of these knives as a single piece (8" chef) and fell in love with the weight and quality, so I bought the full set. I was skeptical at first about the rubber handles and thought for sure they would peel/cut/rip.

They never did and I've had this same set for over four years. I use every single knife in the set, almost weekly, and at least two knives daily (I LOVE to cook). I additionally bought the 7" and 5" santoku knives that match the set. You cant beat the price.

I do take care of them, like you should any knife (hand wash/dry immediately), so that might help the longevity. But the durability is defiantly there.

I bought these for my wife for Christmas. She is a culinary nut, but I am not and was worried about buying something I know little about. I bought these because of the reviews on Amazon and when she opened the present she was ecstatic and said they were the exact ones she would have chosen...YES...finally got something right!!!

They are very nice; the handles are exceptional and even fit my hand...she uses them daily and hasn't asked me to sharpen any of them since she got them.

If your looking or a high quality set of cutlery and don't want to break the bank, get these!

I have this set which I think is great. So I gave my daughter the same set for Christmas; she agrees that it is a terrific knife set.

This is the best knives set!!! Love the handles. They do not slip. I had done some research and found that this was the best price compared to retail...$250.00

I love these knives however I just wanted to point out to anyone else who is thinking of buying these that the set I got a few days ago (Nov 2008) had the stainless steel steak knives without the black coated handle. (This was not a packing mistake either, the product's box clearly says and pictures non-coated steak knives.) The larger knives are all exactly as shown. The knives are still awesome and work great, I'm just a little disappointed that the set doesn't match as perfectly as pictured in the item description.
