Branching out from its already successful cookware line, Anolon’s Advanced collection features high-grade materials with substantial weight. This 10-piece set puts together a pretty well-rounded assortment of knives including: an 8-inch chef knife, a 6-inch boning knife, a 3-1/2-inch parer, a 9-inch bread knife, a 5-inch serrated utility knife, a 6-inch utility knife, and an 8-inch slicer. A 10-inch sharpener is included for daily honing and polishing the knife blades. The set also offers a pair of forged kitchen shears for cutting poultry or string. All pieces fit into a handsome bamboo block with labeled slots for each knife in the set and a few extra unlabeled slots for additions. Though the serrated blades (bread and utility knives) and the hollow-ground or "dimpled’ blade in this set (slicer) produce nice clean cuts, the other cutlery is slightly dull right out of the box. Immediate sharpening on a fine steel is recommended before using these knives to bring their edges to a sharper and safer angle for exact and injury-free cutting.
Advanced Collection knives feature blades forged from high-quality German carbon steel that resists rust and food stains. The stainless steel is ice-hardened for additional strength and longer edge retention. Blades are then polished with glass to produce an edge that is meant to be simultaneously sharp but smoother to the touch. Full tangs and counter balance caps provide superior balance, while rounded blade spines add more comfort during extended periods of prepping. Ergonomically-shaped handles with cushioned non-slip Santoprene padding offer a secure, comfortable grip--even when cutting with wet hands.

Just received these as a gift. We've been using cheaper sets for the last 10 years and finally decided to go for a more-than-$75-set to ensure we aren't replacing every couple of years!
These are amazing! I'm quite impressed with the weight of each knife and plan on adding the steak set to compliment it. The block is made of bamboo and has a unique, classy look to it. I've cut some pretty standard stuff... (Fruit, meat, chicken, and bread), but can't believe the huge difference between these and my "chef's choice" set.

These knives are quite good indeed. As many other folks, we have used old stamped knives for all our lives and when Macy's had great sale we decided to buy this set. I could not believe the difference. They cut everything like soft butter. The knife just glides right through.
This set is great for many reasons. While other sets include sheers that look like cheesy scissors, this one has a real thick, serious, metal sheers. Every handle is so convenient, and really nice to hold in your hand. It does not slip like the plastic or wooden or synthetic handles on other knives. Every knife is well balanced. My favorite is the 6" utility, while my wife likes the santoku. The bamboo block is really nicely done. Even though this set is made in China, the steel is German Chrome Molybdenum Vanadium; overall quality of packaging, materials, and build is outstanding. If you do not want to spend hundreds of dollars, this set is $170 very well spent.

This set of knives was replacing an older set. They are so comportable to use and the grip helps to keep my hands from slipping. I am only sorry that I waited so long.
