5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding Knife
For the past 15 years I have been using a set of Wusthof knives that my husband purchased, with the exception of the paring knife, which he bent prying something open (sigh) and then tried, fairly unsuccessfully, to bend it back into position. Consequently, I have been using a five-inch paring knife but have never felt comfortable with the length. I treated myself to...

1.0 out of 5 stars Did not come with a sheath as described
I love Anolon knives, and this is of high quality, so don't let my 1-star review concern you about the quality of the product.

However, I rated it 1-star because the picture and description provided here by Amazon indicates that the knife should come with a plastic sheath. My order did not. The package was brand new and unopened, so I suspect there may be an...

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding Knife, June 1, 2007

This review is from: Anolon Advanced 3-1/2-Inch Parer Knife (Kitchen)
For the past 15 years I have been using a set of Wusthof knives that my husband purchased, with the exception of the paring knife, which he bent prying something open (sigh) and then tried, fairly unsuccessfully, to bend it back into position. Consequently, I have been using a five-inch paring knife but have never felt comfortable with the length. I treated myself to this knife, which for me is a fairly nosebleed price of $20 (including super saver shipping). I used it today as soon as I unwrapped it and have completely forgiven the cost. This knife weighs about double the Wusthof counterpart, has great balance, and is sure in my hand. I should have purchased this knife a long time ago and appreciate the point guard and sheath so that I can leave it out full time on the counter. November 16, 2007 update: This knife really paid for itself when I used it to prepare chestnuts for my turkey stuffing. Those shells are tough and have to be cross slashed on both sides prior to roasting. I have dreaded this part because my Wusthof blade was fairly lightweight, and I was constantly afraid of accidentally cutting myself. The Anolon knife does the job in about one-third of the time and cuts right through the outer chestnut shell. Now I am really impressed.

5.0 out of 5 stars a rewarding splurge, December 21, 2004

None of my paring knives were very satisfying to me. My best was an Oxo, and those are sharp, but flimsy. I wanted a firm, solid little knife I could bear down on. I bought this on sale, and now find myself making up excuses to use it. It cuts effortlessly, and holds a sharpening. Even better, it balances ergonomically in the hand. Though the handle is covered in a non-stick plastic, the knife feels full tang under it. In fact, you can feel its solidity whenever you use it or pick it up quickly, as it resounds and vibrates from the tip, like a musical instrument. It's sleek design is appealing and modern. This is a versatile and elegant kitchen tool, and it also cleans up quickly.

Excellent knife. I own 3 other Anolon knives, and for quality and price, they are unmatched.

Excellent service from Amazon too.

I love this knife. I use it for just about everything. I own all Anolon knives and wouldn't buy any other brand.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great value, March 22, 2007

I purchased this knife so I could have something to easily transport from my kitchen to other family member's kitchens, since it comes with a knife sheath. For the cost of the knife, it is a great value. It has a full tang and is balanced well. It's a very nice, moderately-priced knife, as are the others in the same collection.

I love Anolon knives, and this is of high quality, so don't let my 1-star review concern you about the quality of the product.

However, I rated it 1-star because the picture and description provided here by Amazon indicates that the knife should come with a plastic sheath. My order did not. The package was brand new and unopened, so I suspect there may be an issue with the description and photos displayed, and what Amazon has in stock.

They are shipping me a new one, and I'll update my review once that one arrives. I'm concerned I'll have the same problem this time since the new order contains the exact same item number and the warehouse will be picking from the same stock.

Thought folks would like to know since the sheath is one of the selling points of Anolon knives for me since I don't use a cutlery block or magnetic holder.

3/13 Update: The second order arrived yesterday, and it's the same knife, without the sheath. The CSR at Amazon indicated that they may have an inventory problem or mismatch that would have to be investigated. As an aside, I notice that the price now reads 19.99, whereas I paid only 15.98 less than 7 days ago, however the supplier has now changed from Amazon to Macy's, which likely means the issue has been remediated.
