Although made in China, this set of blades uses high quality steel from Germany and is forged. Very practical for everyday use and although it is not as good as some other premium blades, it comes very close. The best feature for me are the handle and the balance/weight. Although the handle is not as pretty or expensive looking as some other ones, it's very easy to grip and control. Also these blades are heavier than others which I am more used to. Recommended for people who want to try premium blades but not ready to shell out premium price.

Great knives...all around good product! I'm only worried about washing them in the dishwasher-so I just clean immediately after using! (It's sad there are no steak knives in this set-but I just found the matching set on [...].) Great handles ensure I have a good grip while slicing,etc. Would recommend for those who want great knives and don't want to break the bank!

I've had these knives for about 6 months now and I haven't been disappointed at all. I especially like the small serrated knife, comes in so handy! The heavy duty kitchen Shears are nice to have around as well. The set is Very sharp, Has Great balance and is just overall nice quality.

I can't imagine knives made more comfortable to hold and cut with than these! Some have thought they were a little too heavy, but that's not what I experience. The product description and images tell it like it is. The reviews convinced me to go ahead and try them. I'm grateful for everyone taking the time to share their positive experiences.

Hours after placing this review, I watched the price of this knife set climb from $69.99 on up to 149.99! I attribute that to the Christmas 2006 rush.

It's now March 2nd, 2007 and the price of these knives dropped back down to a more affordable price ($79.99), so I seized the opportunity to buy another set! I doubt it will ever go back down to $69.99, but still for the price range this knife set fluctuates in, it's is a wise purchase!

I came back the next day (March 3rd) and now the price jumped back up to $149.99! Buying products this way seems a lot like playing the stock market.

I have had these for a month and I'm very happy with them. They are good looking, sharp, good heft and balance. The block is fine with labels for the included knives and has extra slots for additional knives. The kitchen shears are not like scissors - more like garden shears. I like the fact that the knives are solid, one-piece construction with a rubber-like grip around the handle. My wife is not one to pamper kitchen utensils and regularly throws these in the dishwasher - with no adverse effects so far!

I did much research into knives. Get this set unless you are looking to be a professional chef. I picked this set over the others in the price range due to the forged steel (much better than the cheaper stamped steel versions) and the higher quality German steel. The products are made in China, making them cheaper, but I found the quality to be exceptional considering the price. They stay very sharp and I love the grip of the handles.

I bought one set as a gift and a second set for myself.

I wanted a set of knives but didn't want all of the steak knives and extras that came with some sets, plus I didn't want to spend over $100. This set appeared to be perfect and when I first saw it the price was under $100. Unfortunately, when I went to purchase them the price had gone back up to $150, but I was patient and ordered them the minute I saw them for under $100.

The knives themselves are very nice with a good feeling grip, and I'm very happy with the selection of knives. My only small wish is that the chef's knife was a 10-inch instead of 8, but like I said, it's a minor issue. I do like the extra slots for other knives, so I can insert my other good knife in the block.

The bottom line is that if you want a good basic set that doesn't take up a lot of room, this is perfect. Just watch for the price to go down and then immediately purchase the set.

I was looking to purchase a real set of knives for the longest time, but I had some serious "sticker-shock" at the prices of forged knife sets. These knives are a fantastic value for being full-tang, forged knives. They are sharp, feel fantastic in your hand -- well-balanced and solid, and look attractive sitting on my countertop.

The bamboo knife block looks great -- it totally matches my other bamboo kitchen accessories, plus bamboo is durable and has some antiseptic properties. The block has little labels for the slots of the knives that come with the set. The extra knife slots have labels but they are left blank.

The variety of knives that comes with the set is pretty good. I purchased the matching 7" santoku from open stock because I wanted something smaller than the chef knife, but a bit more heavy than the utility knife. I've used every knife in the set at some point since getting it 2 weeks ago, and they all perform beautifully. I may get a parer and/or boning knife soon, just to have them and fill up all the block slots. ;)

The santoprene (silicon) handles are very comfortable and slip-resistant. Even when washing the knives, I am able to keep a solid grip on them.

I wish they were dishwasher safe, but really any good knives you'll want to wash by hand anyway. I love these knives so much, I find that I actually enjoy babying them!

If you're looking for a quality knife set but don't want to spend hundreds of dollars, I definitely recommend these. You won't believe how much of a difference a set of solid, sharp knives will make!

We really enjoy theses knives around our house. Wonderful balance, great grip, not too flashy. Steel seems to be very good so far. They take and hold an edge well. Unfortunately I paid about the full price shown to buy these as a Christmas present. I wish I could have bought them for this big discount.

They are great value at full price ridiculously good with the price cut in almost a 1/3. They are better than the 4-star set of knives they replace for feel, balance, and grip. We'll know about the steel in a year or two.

I bought this knife set for my wife based on all the great reviews. We were not let down. My wife says knives are super sharp and cut everything with ease. Very comfotable to hold. Also, very well made for this price. Great product from Anolon.
