I was so pleased to find this item. Comparable items from the private "Pampered Chef" Executive line are twice as expensive. It turns out that the Anolon Advanced appears to be an exact match to their pieces. The quality far exceeds the typical Wal-Mart, Target, Penney's offerings. I was so pleased to find this item. Comparable items from the private "Pampered Chef" Executive line are twice as expensive. It turns out that the Anolon Advanced appears to be an exact match to their pieces. The quality far exceeds the typical Wal-Mart, Target, Penney's offerings. The thickness of the anondized construction as well as the fabulous "Dupont Autograph 2" coating makes these pieces perfect for family life. Having that coating on the outside really insures the beauty of the pieces is maintained over time. The Hard anondized construction is great but if you had anything spatter on it (like olive oil), you would always see that after it was washed and dried. With Anonlon Advanced - you get the best of both worlds! The skillet it super huge - so no worries about capicity.

This piece is huge!! I can do so many different things in this pan. I love the tough non stick inside and out!! Clean up is incredible. And it goes in the oven up to 400 degrees. I did a huge fritata over the weekend for the family, we covered it in cheese and put it in the oven. It slid out of the pan onto my serving platter, cooked evenly thru out no burning on the bottom (have you ever seen that when you start something on top of the stove) wow!!! I can not say enough about this piece, it was a great choice for us!!

I actually bought this for my mother for Christmas, but found myself in the need of a larger skillet or food would have spilled all over. So now I have to get her another one. This thing is huge! I don't know why I ever used smaller pans in the past. Great price as well. It heats up super fast, and very even. I haven't used it much, so I only gave it 4 stars, probably deserves 5!

UPDATE: 3/2009 - I have had this pan for about a year and a half and it is going bad. The non-stick coating is no longer working well and I am going to have to order a new pan. The non-stick coating on this pan was always a good deal "rougher" feeling than the Revere-ware pan I purchased at the same time - and now it is starting to let food stick. That's why I am on Amazon today, ordering a new (NOT Anolon) pan...

Wow, I more or less just wasted my $43 on this skillet. I'd return it, but it will do as a 12 inch skillet for me. But I am very disappointed.

I had a T-Fal skillet that measured about 11 inches at the base, with a gradual slope up the sides that would allow me to pile a fairly good amount of fish, or pork chops in the pan quite easily. I have no idea where it came from, I may have gotten it by default when I got married. It has served me well over the years.

But it has some scratches and the non-stick coating is getting rough (still doesn't stick, looks like it is slightly bubbling.) I read that this means it is time for a new pan.

So I came here looking for a slightly bigger pan to replace it, as I always seem to have one filet or chop that won't quite fit or I have to cram the food in tightly.

So I settled on the Anolon 14 inch skillet that I am reviewing here. I also ordered a Revere Convenience 12-Inch Skillet thinking it could replace my smaller 10 inch pan that was also showing some scratches.

I received the Anolon 14 inch skillet and hauled out my tape measure and it has roughly a 10 1/2 inch base. The same as the cheaper, and smaller sized Rever Convenience 12-Inch Skillet. The top is 14 inches in diameter, but the base is the same as my 12 inch skillet.

How is that helpful? This is just a more expensive, takes up more space on the stovetop skillet with the same cooking surface area of my 12 inch Revere skillet!

I am not happy at all with this. The sides are very gradually sloped, so I can see that this might be useful if you are using it as a WOK or for vegetables, but for meats that you want solidly on the cooking surface, this is just a bulky, space stealing pan.

You're better off with something else.

Take care not to burn the pan as it is not recommended for greater than med-high heat. I used mine on high to stirfry and the nonstick coating changed color slightly. Nonstick coating is durable and works well, but not perfect. Also, be careful not to burn yourself on the metal portion of the handles on either side of the silicone.

Great skillet! It is really large and can hold enough to feed an army! I received it today and immediately started using it. WOW! Nothing stuck to it tonight. Washed really quick in the sink with a little Dawn. It does take up some room in the cabinet but worth it. A+ so far!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great everyday pan, June 25, 2007
This review is from: Anolon Advanced Hard Anodized Nonstick 14-Inch Open French Skillet (Kitchen)
My husband and I are in love with this pan. Not only does it accommodate just about every meal we want to cook, the non-stick surface is amazing. The food slides right off so we use less or no oil for cooking. We got a great deal at a local specialty store. We are buying a lot of the Anolon pieces separately as needed. We have 2 strainer pots, an oval sauce pan, an 8 inch fry pan, and a wok. We couldn't be happier with our purchases.

This is the pan you need for making those all-in-one meals. Large enough to handle the biggest meals. Extra deep sides are a plus.

2.0 out of 5 stars Pass on this if you want a Pan that lasts more than a year and a half!, March 27, 2010

I purchased this pan on Feb 18, 2008 after reading all of the positive reviews...dont fall the positives like I did. I have been using the pan for about a year and 7 mo. and it has lost most of its non stick coating allowing the food to stick worse than a metal pan! Not to mention the fact of where that non- stick coating goes...hmmm. I was pretty happy with the pan at the beginning, having good even heat dispersion. But the fact that it has such a limited life span makes it a loser.

I must say that I will never be looking at another Anolon product again. After many months of having to work at scrubbing this "non-stick" pan, i am on the hunt for another pan.

5.0 out of 5 stars BIG & TOUGH, June 24, 2010

We received our skillet a couple of weeks ago, and we are thrilled with it! We've used it several times already, and like the way it fits perfectly on the large burners on the stove. The skillet heats evenly, and quickly, and the high sides avoid alot of food mishaps, like oil sloshing over the sides, and food falling out when you stir it. The rubber coated handles are a lifesaver as well, since you don't have to scramble for potholders when you have to move it from one location to another. The small handle on the opposite side of the pan makes lifting a breeze. The nonstick coating allows for quick and easy cleanup as well.
Just make sure you have a spot large enough to stow this skillet in. It is BIG!

UPDATE... 5 Months, We have used this skillet for just about everything and I highly recommend this Anolon Advanced Nonstick Hard-Anodized Aluminum Cookware to everyone looking for great, heavy duty, long lasting cookware for the following reasons...

I wanting a big skillet, I use it 2-3 times a week for just about everything you can think of cooking and even on my grill. Now I did things to this skillet for a reason before I was going to buy a new set, things you would never do too nonstick cookware. I have Deep-fried, Seared, and once burned this skillet to the point "I thought" I had destroyed it. Once I even dropped it when it was very hot "in cold water" putting it down on the edge of the sink to cool. I have owned dozens of nonstick cookware over 30 years of cooking. I always went with less costly pots and pans sets but found that the nonstick coating did not holdup at all on the skillets. I tried just about every brand of nonstick skillets made over 30 years. I also use, good old cast-iron which takes high heat very well but as anyone knows, is very heavy. Why am I saying all of this... Simple!

Anolon Hard-Anodized Aluminum Cookware is "Heavy Duty" but lightweight; The Advanced Nonstick Coating on my French Skillet has ~very slightly~ turned brown in the middle most likely from when I burned it. If this had been another brand, I would have thrown the skillet away because, once you burn the nonstick coating, it peels and scraps right off! My Anolon Advanced Skillet is heavy duty, has taken high heat, like cast-iron but weighs a quarter of what my 14-in cast-iron pan does.

However, what I have done is find that this cookware can standup to abuse like no other cookware I have ever used. This is what sold me on the advanced nonstick coating. I know with the right care, and uses, the Pots, Pans, and Skillets will last for years! This is why I purchased a whole set of Anolon Advanced Nonstick Hard-Anodized Aluminum 12-Piece Cookware Set. "Are they worth the higher cost?" After what I did to this skillet the past 4 months "I'm Sold" they are the best cookware for the price! ~will be updating this again~
